Dude… your paddle’s too long! / Why paddle height is important when SUP surfing

It’s simple… drop your paddle height and you will be SUP surfing better! That’s what I was thinking when I saw a paddler using a too long paddle in the surf the other day.

Hi Ruben,
Just before leaving for the surf clinic with Beau, which was fantastic by the way,
I chopped 8cm off my fixed paddle to make it knuckle height above my head.
Did measure 3 times but was a bit concerned I’d chopped so much off in one go.
I knew it was too long and had been meaning to reduce it but never got round to it.
What a difference it made.
So much better and easier to use in the surf than before.
Thanks for the timely video.
Cheers Craig

Great video. It’s so common to see other SUP surfers using too long a paddle. Either they struggle to catch waves, or they have figured out adjustments without realizing how much easier it would be with a shorter paddle.

I cut my paddles down to the middle of my forehead. Works great and encourages good technique.
