Is there a reason why you shouldn’t buy this wing as an intermediate or advanced rider? For example, how does it hold up in the surf/behaves in the waves?
Hi Jeroen, I haven’t been using this wing a lot in the waves yet. The only disadvantage possibly would be it definitely won’t have as much power or maybe as light in the hands as some other more performance wings. And the bigger sizes might be a Little slower to throw around when using them in the waves. But to be honest when FreeWing said this was their beginner wing. I thought many intermediate and more advanced riders will enjoy using it and for the price it is a strong contender for many users.

Pretty good combination, I have a Starboard generation and 6sqm freewing. Good railgrip plus big fins make the stuff run very well. To engage the rails upwind to maximum, I tried out standing switch – works funny. Thanks for your insight’s Reuben
When using it with the SUP (shown in the pro video), I was wondering about heeling the board to leeward like windsurfers used to do back in the day when they had the longer displacement boards to use the leeward rail to lengthen the waterline aiding upwind pointing. Maybe the thruster fin setup is the limiting factor for this technique to be viable. Also, a foot strap or two might be helpful.
Looks like it would be a great touring aid either way.
Hi Andrew, this does actually work. But only in the lighter winds. I find if the wind is a little bit stronger then sometimes you get pulled onto your toes and it’s hard to keep the control of the board and the wing. I guess this because there is no mast and it all goes through your legs.
I definitely need to get out and try it on the board like the generation though, good comment..

Really inspired to try this! How would this wing compare to the Freewing V1? Thanks Reuben
The feel of the wing is very close. I think (from memory) that the V1 is not a stiff as the newer V2 and go wings. The price is right for the V1 it is still a good wing and something great to get you into the sport. But if the Go is cheaper than this is definitely the way to go!

Having discussed boards with you in the recent past,I’m half way to getting my pair of SUP boards. The second is a Starboard iGo 11′ Windsurf as a multi use board to loan to others and use with wind (as a dinghy sailor, I do like a bit of wind…). My dilemma now is whether to go Wing SUP or Wind SUP. I wonder whether there’s more in the WindSUP in terms of maintaining longer interest if not progressing to foiling (no local foiling community), although I do see it could add an extra dimension to touring. Hey Andrew. Myself and Lucy have just had a discussion about this in the office. We would both pick windsurf on a SUP over WingSUPing, if you were not going to progress onto the foil! BUT….. If you are going to take it touring and or get other people to give it a go theres a place for wing SUPing for sure. TBH you would probably enjoy both.
I would go for a 4.5 on a SUP really. Unless its light winds alot of the time?
took delivery of a new 6.5 today and tried it an hour later! i have been using Gong wings since starting two years ago. I am by no means an expert – probably a moderate intermediate. I bought this on the strength of your review. As soon as I was up on the board (Gong Lance 5’8) the the qualities of the wing became instantly apparent- getting m on foil was effortless. Good question, I would try and keep your winds as new as possible at the moment. They seem to be making good changes with every newer wing. Im sure this will slow down in future but at the moment if money allows try and keep it up to date as possible unfortunately.

I am looking for an extra wing for light wind. Which wing should I get: the Freewing GO 6.5m (newer) or Freewing Air V2 7m (currently cheaper)?
