SUP Surf Sessions – A Podcast Dedicated to SUP Surfing

If you're looking for something SUP surf related to listen to away from the water, SUP Surf Sessions is a new podcast dedicated to learning, progressing and getting more from your SUP surfing. Launched earlier this year by Sean Cassidy, the podcast takes a slightly different approach to the usual watersports interview. Sean describes himself as an intermediate SUP surfer with a simple goal – to learn to rip on a paddleboard – and he's using the podcast to speak with coaches and athletes from around the world to find out how.

The conversations explore everything from SUP surf technique and equipment to positioning, ocean knowledge, mindset, etiquette and simply enjoying more time on the water.

So far, Sean has welcomed a varied line-up of guests from across the SUP surfing world.

The first episode featured Alex Chandler, discussing lineup etiquette, stance, paddle length and becoming a better waterperson.

Canadian SUP surfer Lise Richard followed, sharing her experiences from international competition alongside discussions around video analysis, progression and improving turns.

Episode three featured Tiago Silva from Mauka Lodge in Portugal, covering his approach to SUP surf coaching, stance, equipment, surfskate training and progression.

Jake Collard from Oso Paddle Surf in Costa Rica joined Sean for episode four, with the conversation covering ocean knowledge, positioning, dynamic footwork, efficient paddling and using the paddle to amplify manoeuvres.

Most recently, SUP surfing legend Rick Weeks – better known as “SUP the Creek” – joined the podcast at 78 years young. The wide-ranging conversation covers technique, safety, equipment, style and surfing with rhythm, as well as Weeks’ work on board designs with Sunova and his attitude towards age and continuing to surf.

Beau Nixon has also recently recorded an upcoming episode with Sean, discussing his approach to SUP surf coaching and offering tips and insights into progressing your technique, so keep an eye out for more episodes dropping each month.

It’s refreshing to see a podcast putting SUP surfing itself at the centre of the conversation, particularly with a focus on practical information that everyday paddlers can take into their own sessions.

With more conversations with SUP surf coaches and athletes planned, SUP Surf Sessions is well worth adding to your listening list.
