Rick Weeks shares his insights about his preferred SUP surf stance when paddling and waiting for waves. This stance is ideal for more balance and better control.
This is a good look at the stance I use on all my SUPs in surf or flatwater. The modified surf stance is what I find most stable and comfortable in all conditions because it offers frontto back stability as well as side to side. It also requires the least amount of “correction” when I get bobbled by backwash or chop. Many prefer the “wide parallel stance” but I find this works best for me.

I tried this stance yesterday on calm flat water for 3 hours. I think I like it. I need to test it in rougher water
I’ve stood like this for years. Narrow stance too. Ive often said to people it’s like standing in the middle of a seesaw. The wider your stance the more the chop and your board rolling about affects you.
So true! Thanks for the comment.
