The EuroSUP 2023 Championships were held earlier this month where the best SUP athletes from Europe compete for the win in SUP surfing and racing disciplines.
EuroSUP 2023 was held over 14-22 October and the performances from all athletes did not disappoint.
The SUP surfing was held over 3 days with French surfer Benoit Carpentier dominating the final. Carpentier secured the open mens title with an impressive total score of 16.96, including the event’s highest-scoring wave at 9.33. Spain’s Alazne Arrucoechea was surfing 100% all week and emerged victorious in the women’s SUP surfing.
In the SUP Sprint event, Portuguese champion Tomás Lacerda delivered an emotional win, thrilling the home crowd with his remarkable performance. Melanie Lafenêtre of France claimed gold in the women’s sprint, while Italy dominated the junior races with Cecilia Pampinella and Nicolo Ricco securing wins.
The event was called off due to bad weather and then resumed over the weekend to crown the long distance and team champions.
France took the two highest spots at the men’s long distance race podium through the efforts of Clément Colmas and Ethan Bry with third place going for Spain’s Aron Sanchez while Danish Christian Andersen got the copper for fourth.
In the women’s race, the Spanish flag ruled, with Duna Gordillo winning the gold and Esperanza Barreras getting silver. Swiss Anna Tschirky and French Iona Rivet completed the podium in third and fourth, respectively.
