Check the Slovenian company Amanzi sup. They have V-Hull boards from 11 to 14 foot and from 24 to 32 inch wide. 14×28 looks particularly appealing for touring. It would be great to test them. Also their hard race board has a very unique “sparrow” tail. http://www.amanzi.si

IMO: theoretically at lower speeds there might be a small improvement in straight line stability but at the cost of extra resistance and less stability along the axis. in higher speeds on slimmer boards there is no improvement as the v is not deep enough to really split the water. There is more to gain from a sharp cone nose in that respect. If there would be speed gains brands like Red would also use it in their raceboard, and also Starboard is not using it. btw I had both the Red Voyager with and without v hull. Difficult to… Read more »

Eh-hem… Slight tangent, but V hull looks interesting from a foiling perspective. Bet it releases better than the flat and a bit of standing area concave sounds good to me. Weight will be the main factor for seeing if it’s a suitable application for that though.

Hi Hum3, Yes the V hull works well for foiling. We have already reviewed the Starboard Ace Air foil with it on and it really makes a difference.

SPS a Spanish company also makes great Vee-Hulled boards. BUT Quroc has a board – the 12’6″ tourer. This looks similar but wider The Quroc 28″/29″ wide. I’ve had mine for 3 years! fast, easy to paddle, bit tippy. The main disadvantage of the top ‘valley’ is this draws water into the deckpad. This means that it’s always wet, especially in rough conditions or when cross wake from a boat, so tend to stand on the edge of the board. Because of this I tend not to use my Quroc in the winter.. Vee- hull perfect for T100 as works… Read more »

Seagods from Canada has v hulls on their expedition board, ‘The West Coast’ 13.5’x30″ and on their Race ‘Ketos’ 14’*28″. I thought one of the previous 14′ iSUP Race/Tour boards you tested had a slight v-hull – Aqua Marina Race 14’*27″ & Race Elite 14’*25″ – not as pronounced as the others though.

I have the Ketos (ULF, older slightly heavier version vs newer CX) but I haven’t taken it out yet.

I have the venture wild v hull board (12.6×30) and I also have a flat bottom sic okeanos inflatable. I do love them both. My experience is that the v hull tracks straighter, cuts through chop and is narrower and faster. The sacrifice is the solid stability of a wider flat board. This is an active, nimble board, which is impressive for an inflatable.
