Now is the perfect time to buy a SUP, with lots of great paddleboard deals out there. We highlight why this is, and what you should consider before you buy, to make sure you get the most for your buck!
There’s nothing like a good deal and saving yourself a bit of money. With many SUPs currently being in stock, due to reasons I speak about in this video, there is definitely more boards to choose from at the moment and at a good price too. But when choosing the right board, make sure it not only works for you on the water, but that it will also last as long as possible.
Remember it’s not always the case, but generally speaking the more you spend the better board you’ll get.
If you’re a SUPboarder Pro subscriber check out the bonus video below where I name our top iSUP and composite board brands this year.
I agree Reuben. There are a lot of deals out there. I wonder if you could make a video of some older models for sale. Maybe do a few from Starboard, a few from Sunnova. a few from sic, just for example. Last year I missed out buying a used Starboard Hero for $300.00. I see lots of used older Starboards for sale
This would be good to do, but theres alot of good boards out their from the passed. Not sure were to start 😉
What I do hope is with a lot of the videos we make paddlers will get the knowledge to work out what sizes and shapes they should look for. And then of course when they find that board they can message us on ATE and we can confirm what they were thinking about the board they have picked.
Just like you, many others have done this in the passed.
Also, I do question your statement that you may lose $50.00 or $100.00 selling a board. From my experience and observations trying to sell a 2 new boards hard and isup, In this market you could easily loose 50 percent even on a Starboard. Maybe My selling skills are weak
Hey Cameron, yeah. If you sell a board that you bought new at full price, you will loose more for sure. But its also about how long you keep hold of it for. Is it still a current board (the same year, as to when you are selling it). What I was meaning in the video is that if you buy a used board and sell it after a few months you wont loose very much or sometimes if it was a good buy in the first place you can even get all your money back for it when you… Read more »
Yes makes sense. I bought a used Red Paddle whip and sold it a year later and I only lost $50.00. I think buying and selling used boards is a good way to try different shapes. I find that if it is a name brand at a good price and you snap it up fast then it is almost guaranteed that you can resell it fast. Non popular brands are more risky One factor to consider is if the brand discontinues your newly purchased model then it could effect your resale value. For example, Last year I bought a new… Read more »

Great video. I know you can’t review all brands but one big miss in my opinion is RedwoodPaddle (for Surf SUP composite only). Small French online brand but I’m surprised that they are not even mentioned given the construction quality, shape ans customer service. Been surfing these for the past 10yrs and would say that they surf better that most brands you highlighted. Def worth a mention/review at some point( just a happy customer – no link to the brand whatsoever). Thanks.
Hey Antoine, Yes you are right they do need a mention. TBH I forgot about them on our list. Thanks for the comment and feedback about them. Also its been a good few years since we had a longboard in a test we did. The board was well shape and surfed well also, a little heavy but it was a full wood construction and a beautiful finished board. I would love to get on some newer shapes from them. Thanks so much for your positive words about them, A brand that others should have a look at for sure. Happy… Read more »
