In this SUPboarder video Reuben talks you through the simplest way to successfully cut down and glue your SUP paddle. Cutting the end off your expensive new paddle is always a bit nerve racking, but with some careful planning and the right equipment it can be pretty straight forward. Remember, you can always cut more off, but you can’t stick it back on! So if you’re unsure on the correct height, using an adjustable paddle first is a great way to find your perfect paddle length before you start cutting down your pricey fixed paddle.
good one especially how you taped and cut the paddle while rotating. Something I didn’t do. I also use a heat gun to warm up the shaft and paddle before I do it which gives me a bit more time to twist it about.
Good point about heating it up earlier before you put the handle in!
thanks, very useful video, I cut my new carbon paddle this way
Glad you found this video useful. Thanks for the comment
Great video! Very easy to follow. I would suggest using painters tape (instead of masking tape) as a guide for cutting, as it’s super-easy to remove when you’re done.
Thanks Jordon
Hi Reuben, just do my Lima 2022 one piece (I have already 2 pieces). You went really fast on how to properly line up the handle with the paddle. I just checked it and I do not see any mark either on the shaft or the handle (too bad SB did not do anything about it to make it perfectly aligned). Any tip on this ? Thank you
Hi Olivier, Yes put the handle on dry with no glue first. Get it lined up (you can put the paddle flat on floor, then handle will be flat to blade ) then pencil line the shaft and handle. Hope that helps? Thanks
