Inflatable or hard board?… that’s the usual question. But what about 2 piece boards? This video of James Casey playing around on a 2 piece Unlimited Sunova looks like fun. Having a board that splits in 2 pieces has to be a good idea doesn’t it?
But if we’re talking a 2 piece unlimited race board approx 17′ in length, that’s still 2 big bits of board to transport! And if you still can’t fit the 2 bits inside your van/car, then it’s probably still easier to tie 1 board on the roof rather than 2 separate bits!
We love the concept and think 2 piece smaller 9′ boards really could be interesting, as having something approx 5′ in length in the car or aeroplane really could be a game changer.
What are your thoughts on 2 piece boards? Have you used them or seen them?

I think it is a great idea. I have seen it in action (no affiliation) and it worked well. Traveling with an 8-9′ surf SUP is a hassle. Two 4′ pieces are much easier to transport (assuming a bag manufacturer will make something appropriate). Now I just need an uncrowded line-up to travel to…
