thanks for this video preview, it’s very interesting! I think this coulb be a nice first race board for me, a one board quiver. Can you compare GenR to new 3Bay flatdeck board Govihan 14′? Did you ever test 3bay boards? I see many paddlers with 3bay boards in France.
Hey Andrea, We haven’t got any experience with any of the 3bay boards. I wonder if anybody else has, they can drop down their feedback below. But I do think the Gen R is going to be a board that a lot of people can get into racing with.

Really useful stuff, cannot wait for full review. I’m currently in market for 24-25ish race board, so I’ve looked this video though a few times and just got a change to test 2023 24.5 wide All Star which was quite nice. I paddle mosly in flat(ish) water and chop that is usually on the smaller side so that would direct me towards Sprint, but I’m a bit worried what happens when/if chop gets any bigger. Gen R would otherwize be nice compromize but I quite like the lower stange and the the fell that real dugout provides. Maybe I need… Read more »
Hmmm yes I see the problem. But I do think the Gen R is a board that could work well fro you. Any condition’s the board will work. Are you looking for a board to enter some races? on or do you just want a board to paddle fast. The reason I ask is you can potentially get away with a sprint on those slightly choppy days if you’re not racing, but when it comes to racing the sprint in choppy conditions it can become a little bit more of a handful / stressful.
I’m gonna do some racing for fun, but being 50 in a few months I’m gonna allow myself to be a bit selective on which races to enter. Gen R sure would work in any conditions, but we don’t really have conditions to do sup surfing or real downwinding here (Finland) so it’s strengths and versatility might a bit wasted.I’m also quite tall at 189 cm so getting the center of gravity lower with some serious dugout is quite nice, the boards when you stand at or even slightly below waterline are quite tempting. Currently leaning towards getting a mostly… Read more »
Ok yeah, sounds like the sprint could be the better board for you. Its so good on the flat water!

Hi guys and girls, loving the no nonsense and honest review. looking forward to more tests of the gen R 14×25 and love to hear more info from the generation riders. currently using a 14×28 generation and it is a great board. i am think of not replacing but getting a little bit faster semi openwater board that will potetional will do some downwinding. the stability of the generation is sick anyone can paddle this board. great starter hardboard but it has a very fixed topspeed max on flat water, for proprer 6-7 bft and 1m waves downwind it is… Read more »
Thanks for the comment. Yeah the Gen R should be on the list. Hopefully you can get on the water and paddle one.

Like many, I’m very keen to see how the GenR measures up against the Generation, but also the All-star. I have a Generation 14’x28″ Lite Tech. It’s very stable and easy to paddle. However, it is heavy, slow to accelerate, the rocker doesn’t seem to engage as much with footwork/positioning punching upwind, and I feel I’ve topped out it’s speed potential. Such a great board in many ways, yet probably not optimal for the English estuaries I paddle on. Recently got a Naish Maliko 14’x26″ to progress too. Way faster, lighter, and accelerates better than the Generation. However, the stability… Read more »
We love the Naish Maliko really top board. We still have ours… The Generation defo has a top speed and any faster and it feels like you are paddling with a hand break on. Any race board will not have this feeling. Hard to say exactly how much faster the Gen R is (we need to do more tests) but the top speed should be much easer to reach and there should feel like the hand break isnt every on. Its just the paddler that will be holding the board back, This would be the other way around with the… Read more »
I’ve put my money where my mouth is and ordered a 2023 Allstar in 24.5” width and of course in peasant wood carbon.
I was sorely tempted by the GenR, but I just feel like the Allstar will be just that little bit more unforgiving in more extreme conditions. I don’t think you can go wrong with either though.

Thanks for the feedback and coming to ride the boards Daniel.
Was a pleasure, just a bit expensive as last time I had to buy two BP paddles…
