SUP KANAKS is a new SUP film about the inspiring story of Ekolu Kalama, a small town boy from the island of Molokai who dreams of becoming a professional waterman.
Ekolu grows up to become the first paid professional paddle boarder in history. He overcame adversity, excelled, and went on to become #1 in the World, winning the 2009 World Professional Stand Up Paddleboard Championship.
Ekolu’s co-stars are Ikaika Kawaii and Kelson Kihe, both joined Ekolu on the Stand Up Paddle Professional World Tour in 2010. The three became known as the SUP KANAKS.
The cast is rounded out with a trio of special guest wave-riders:
(1) Ekolu’s wife, Honora Kalama,
(2) Jordan Kekahuna Lawrence (RIP), and Captain Ron Suffron(producer/director/waverider).
This film provides a unique combination of live performances blended with breath taking visuals, highlighting amazing sup-surfing talents, the majestic, natural beauty of Hawaii, including dolphins, honu (turtles), birds, and more… with an informative and educational perspective on Hawaiian history and culture… ALL set to the soothing, rhythmic, and upbeat island sounds from Ekolu ’s incredible “Dare to Dream” soundtrack, with 2 bonus songs : Hoomakaukau and Captain America.
