Hi Beau, I think you have done really good reviews on the Wedge and JP Surfwide, you’ve captured the similarities and key differences. I got the 8’7 Wedge following your previous review and it really helped me progress. I have the centre fin fairly well forward and it turns so easily/sharply without sacrificing anything really. Then had the opportunity to get an 8’2 Surfwide. It surfs exactly as you describe! And, it has brought my surfing on and really forced me to develop how I trim the board, it is more sensitive nose to tail than the Wedge and less… Read more »
Hi Paul. Thanks for the comment. Glad to hear that the boards feel the same for you when surfing them. Definitely two different beasts the Wedge and Surf Wide, but fun in their own way. Yes, the paddle height is a good point to note too! Thanks for sharing.
Hi Geoffrey. The Fanatics are supplied with a multi box. Which means you can use FCS or Futures fins. But yes you are right it is supplied with Futures fins, Hope that makes sense and sorry for the miss understanding.
You would think so, but apparently not. There have been a few threads on this on the forums. Here is a quote for the manager of Duotone who I assume is the manufacturer “Last year we developed our own finbox which we call the North Multibox. It has two side-bite screws like FCS, but the angles/width of the box means they are only compatible with Futures fins…”
Ok well… I have just gone to our board room and I have a Fanatic Stylemaster and an Allwave both 2022 boards. And they take Futures, FCS and even FCS2(using the grub screws). And they have muiltbox printed inside. So unless they have changed the boxes in the last few months?? Unlikely. They are the manufacture so they know best, but in my mind you can run FCS without a problem and the screw keep the fins nice and tight in the boxes. And I believe most angle /CANT is put onto the fins them selves and most boxes are… Read more »
Well I’m flummoxed. Is that a word. In his 2021 review Beau mentions that they don’t take FCS and I know of someone who couldn’t get FCS fins in his Allwave. So maybe they have changed or the guy wasn’t trying hard enough. I went to buy a new tail fin for my Stylemaster the other day which is supposed to be a standard US box. I went to a local board repairer who also sells fins by Futures, FCS, Soar and Shapers. I tried 4 different 7” and 8” fins and only one fitted properly without either altering the… Read more »
Yeah its all a bit confusing. I will keep digging around with the subject and see what I can find out. Glad you are sorted.

I am trying to decide between the Allwave and the Wedge for a summer ankle snapper alternative to my prone longboard. Based on your review I am leaning toward the Allwave as it seems to have better glide, However, I see that Fanatic has changed the rail, rocker, and tail in 2023. Do you have any experience with the new shape to know if the new Allwave retains the glide advantage over the Wedge?
Hi Ronald. We have the smaller 7’9 All Wave size to test soon, but we have not ridden the 2023 shapes yet. I don’t think the rocker has changed too much which would mean it still paddles faster than the Wedge. The tail shape won’t change much to the feel and the rail shape may have slightly more volume, but it’s a very proven shape and the All Wave is a great board. I also must say the Wedge is an awesome board, but for small waves for which you are keen on riding, the All Wave would be the… Read more »
Thanks Beau! This is very helpful to hear. I have seen the Wedge in person, and it does look sweet for better waves, I did check out the Quiver Killer preview, and although it is always so hard to really know without seeing it in person, the Allwave does look like it keeps that flatter rocker. I can’t wait to see the outcome of your comparison. I hope your swell arrives soon!

Fin box is Futures compatible, not FCS.
Above comment refers to the Fanatic Allwave.
