I think Will mentioned paddle length in the video but could he state what he currently uses and size of blade. I’ve tried my Sarboard enduro (which is the height to my eye brows) and find it a bit small in length.
Can you recommend a decent quality two piece paddle, that won’t break the bank for trying?
Hey Jima. In this video Will is using a L Black project Hydro X and its about 6″ above his head in height. Paddle wise, shop around as theres some good deals out here at the moment. But the Starboard Carbon range hits a good price point. But it all depends on what you are wanting to pay. Thanks , hope thats helps . Reuben
Just starting my journey and watched your videos on flat water starts and downwinding. I got flat water paddle ups and now riding down the line on bumps and connecting downwind. Using the same kit that you used in the Aiden video but a 205 tail. Qb 105 paddle has my lower back hurting. Not sure what exercise can make it feel better?
Hey Tyler, great you are progressing in the journey. The lower back issue could be from a number of things. It could be a technique problem or that your body is not used to the paddling muscles if you have not done much paddling before. I also see that your paddle is pretty large so could be causing a problem depending on your body size. Before starting downwinding did you do any paddling? Is there any way to get a video over to us of your technique and we might be able to help that way?
I’m about 80kg. Suppose it’s a combination of everything. The board is small at 6’8 96l so I’m kind of digging it out of the water I guess. I have videos on my YouTube channel that’s the only social media I have. Tyler Holowell. Not sure how well you can see my technique in the videos
Great – watched the video and can’t see any technique problems that jump out on the limited clip / angle. The paddle up, particularly on the smaller volume board with the large paddle with pretty long shaft is pretty intense. I would be limiting how much you do & stretching it out well. The good news is that when you get into downwind runs, the flat water paddle up isnt critical for success and you wont need to be burning your back so much. As you can succeed in the paddle up, you have the paddle power. Next step would… Read more »
Thank you! Yeah, it’s pretty intense because I was going like every day. Waves and bumps next! I’ll keep you updated!

Update. Went out in bumps and it’s a night and day difference. Now that I can paddle up in flat water it’s really easy in waves! That Aiden video really made a huge difference in my technique. Cheers from Florida

Thanks. I bought an Aqua Marina Carbon X, 2 piece for half price. Will let you know how I get on.
Yeah please do.
