I had first 2 sessions using my 5 size wing with 11″ Nalu, very cool when wind is around 15 knots, when was less, I had troubles going upwind.

Yeah it does require a little bit more technique and knowing how to get the most out of the board in lighter wins but it is possible with a bit of practice, but definitely not as easy as when it’s windy. Glad you’re having fun

Hi Rueben, nice to foil wing on my Hipe 5.3, but looking forward to family sessions on local beach with sup or windsurfer, had some great sessions on a 10.6 inflatable with drift stopper, but fins are smaller than desired. Where-as I feel using an old floaty 130litre fanatic cross short 260 board, but has a decent set of rails and I have a 42cm fin. Any advice other than that already stated for us in the video? Finding ways of getting others to enter and enjoy the sport. If success is mainly about the rails and standing towards the… Read more »

Hey Davey , Yeah i know what you are saying. I keep thinking about how to get my eight-year-old daughter into winging. I think you might be right with the wind surf board route I might try a longer windsurf board with a built-in dagger board and see if that makes a bit of a difference. Or in lighter winds I may try and paddle in front of her with a paddleboard and a long leash attached to her board to help pull her up wind slightly. I have done this teaching her WindSurfer so could be an option for… Read more »

Hi Rueben, have you had any more thoughts? I have a quiver of Hyde blast and Shinn wings that are same design. Like the free wing GO longer chord short span, super happy. Hacking round foiling on a HiPe 5.3 with low aspect wings slow, but safe. Still searching for a brand selling a family friendly non foiling inflatable, any views / reviews yet on JP windsup air, Slingshot crosswinder, or starboard wing board. Have regular fun on on 10.6 with a drift stopper, but I really need a non foiling upgrade. The slingshot and starboard seem to have better… Read more »

Hey Davey
Thanks for the comment and question about a non foiling iSUP board. Yes we were meant to get some of these boards but because of varies shipping a covid issues this year we have found them hard to get hold of. But we have used the JP windsurf and the Ensis inflatable and they both worked well. I see no reason shape wise that the Starboard wont work well too. Super sorry we haven’t managed to get a video done about this. Which one are you think about most?? Thanks Reuben

Hi Reuben, thank you for the nice video. Wouldn’t the board have a better glide if you would use more of the board surface planing on the water?
What do you think which kind of SUP works best with a wing? An allround or a touring board (or crossover)? Which one would go faster and which would go better upwind in your opinion?

hi Dennis, It is an interesting concept if you want the board to plan (this is when a board reaches sufficient speed to travel on the minimal of wetted area or surface of water) then you need to use the less amount of board area for example when you watch WindSurfer is going really fast they only use the last 2 feet of the board touching the water. But to push the board up wind you really need to dig the back rail Edge in to give you enough hold and drip to move up wind. But like you have… Read more »
