If you are getting into SUP surfing, then paddling your board as fast as possible when trying to catch a wave will make it much easier. All waves are moving into the beach at a certain speed and the bigger the waves the faster they are moving. So if you can get your board moving faster when you are catching it you will find the transition onto the wave will be smooth and effortless. The slower you are moving the more you will have to trim and balance your board to catch the wave because you are allowing the wave to hit you from behind.
