SUPboarder quick SUP tip / Thinner leashes go faster in the surf

In this SUPboarder quick SUP tip we talk about a small thing that can make your surf SUP board go that bit faster in weaker, slacker waves. When surfing on a wave your leash causes drag behind you, which slows you down. A thicker, longer leash is stronger but it also causes more drag on the wave. So if you are surfing smaller weaker waves especially with smaller lighter boards try reducing your leash thickness and length.

But be sensible about it and if you are surfing in bigger surf, using bigger boards, surfing in front of rocks or in a busy surf break, make sure your leash is thick enough and in good condition, and isn’t likely to break and damage your board or anybody else around you. And remember your leash should ideally be at minimum the same length as your board.
