Inflatable or hard board?… that’s the usual question. But what about 2 piece boards? This video of James Casey playing around on a 2 piece Unlimited Sunova looks like fun. Having a board that splits in 2 pieces has to be a good idea doesn’t it?
But if we’re talking a 2 piece unlimited race board approx 17′ in length, that’s still 2 big bits of board to transport! And if you still can’t fit the 2 bits inside your van/car, then it’s probably still easier to tie 1 board on the roof rather than 2 separate bits!
We love the concept and think 2 piece smaller 9′ boards really could be interesting, as having something approx 5′ in length in the car or aeroplane really could be a game changer.
What are your thoughts on 2 piece boards? Have you used them or seen them?

I think it is a great idea. I have seen it in action (no affiliation) and it worked well. Traveling with an 8-9′ surf SUP is a hassle. Two 4′ pieces are much easier to transport (assuming a bag manufacturer will make something appropriate). Now I just need an uncrowded line-up to travel to…

There is another important consideration. I live in a flat on the 3rd floor. I want to keep my board at home. This means I need to be able to carry it up the staircase. The limitation of the hard object length to carry around the staircase stops at around 3.2 meters. So that is why I am looking for such a solution.

It would make a great talking point when you have it together hanging on the wall of your flat!
