Life twists and turns and sometimes goes down paths you didn’t expect to go down. Young Fiona Wylde experienced just that this year, when she discovered she had Type 1 Diabetes and had to change her summer plans. A ‘strange’ summer for her but sounds like she’s got it sorted and is now back on the water doing what she does best.
The SUPboarder Team were lucky enough to meet Fiona this summer whilst she was competing in Cornwall. “An outstanding water woman who has time for everyone and always has a smile on her face.” – SUPboarder.
We look forward to seeing Fiona in action again this year. And we know she’s going to prove that Diabetes doesn’t have to get in the way or stop you doing what you love one bit!
“Strange- That is what this summer has been. Type 1 Diabetes was not on my 2015 summer schedule, but sometimes plans change and you have to change with them. So instead of heading back to Europe for more competitions, I stayed at home in Hood River, Oregon to get this thing called Diabetes under control. After the first couple weeks, summer started looking at lot more fun. I got to have an amazing summer filled with, yes you guessed it, my very strange best friends, but I love them! Even between every insulin shot, and every finger prick, this summer has been a big one to remember with such happy memories. Thanks to my friends who have picked me up when I’m down and have shared time on the water! Many thanks and much love!” – Fiona Wylde
