What we say
We heard this board was coming about a year ago, from the Honu designer Mark Travers. So we’ve been eagerly waiting! He said it was going to be a new board to take inflatable SUP surfing to the next level. And now having used the Bondi, lets just say this board didn’t disappoint! The New Honu Bondi is packed full of great new features, such as a longer deck pad and the totally unique fin setup and design, making surfing an iSUP so much easier. The Bondi is a board that will be enjoyed by all levels in many wave types.
We hope this video review gives you a good insight into the Bondi and helps you decide if it’s right for you. We think it’s an absolute ripper!
Got a question about this product?
Our RCMD rider weight: 115kg
Board weight: 8.4kg
Fin set up: 2+1
Pros: Good amount of rocker, Stable, Easy to use, Good fin set up and Quality fins, Stiff, Doesn’t catch a rail or shoulders like some surf iSUPs, Large deck pad and tail kicker, Quality & well priced, 4 yr warranty
Cons: Quite wide for smaller riders, Kick pad could be further back when doing more powerful turns.
Consider buying if... you're looking for a surf SUP to get into the sport or you're a travelling SUP surfer wanting to rip it up when abroad. It will be a great board for surfers 60-115kg. Riders wanting to catch waves earlier and have more of that longboard feel should go for the longer 9'5".

What the brand says
A pure surfing SUP featuring an aggressive shape and rocker-line that is designed to handle surf of any size. Welded carbon rails and Volan fins further enhance the Bondi's pure surfing focus, with performance typically only found with fibreglass boards.
When setting out to design the new Bondi surfing SUP, the goal was to produce a no-compromise board that would perform as close as possible to a fibreglass equivalent. More than 18 months in development, the new Bondi is for the surfing purist, with every last detail, down to board-specific finboxes designed to produce a board capable of handling surf of any size with confidence.
Available in two sizes, 8'8 and 9'5 and just 4" thick, constructed with our X-woven material with Honu's exclusive Welded Carbon Rails. Both sizes feature an aggressive outline and rocker that is further enhanced by a hard rail edge that finishes just in front of the Volan keel fins. All working together to make steep take-offs and powerful bottom turns an easy undertaking.
SUP surfers will appreciate the time spent in developing the Futures-compatible fin system that includes performance fiberglass fins. The twin+1 setup is designed to provide the surfer with flexibility to tune the ride. Start with all three fins for the most stability, but removing the centre fin, leaving in the twin keels provides a fast and loose ride more advanced paddlers will love.
Thanks for the review. I really liked the drone footage. Sorry but some one has to ask. Could you please say a few things on how this compares to the new Starboard surf deluxe ? Thanks
Hey Cam – make sure you haven’t missed the PRO video in the post above where Reuben Talks about how the Bondi compares to the Surf Deluxe – Cheers, Will
Thanks Will,
I just saw the extended video. I appreciate that Reuben made his position pretty clear. I just bought the Honu 11.3 Sorrento. I only used it once so far but I am very impressed with it. I have owned a few Red paddle boards as well including the Sport 11.3 and the older sport 12.6. and the 11.3 Sorrento could be my favorite by far.( I need to use it some more to decide ) and I think that Mark offers great customer service.
Also, Please ask Reuben to do a full Review of the New Bondi 9.5. These boards must feel different on the water. I think the 9.5 deserves a full review if you have the time
Hey Reuben, great review, does the Honu 3 piece paddle fit inside the bag and do you have any recommendations for a rechargable battery pump? Thanks.
Hi Craig – we will check if the Honu paddle fits in the bag ASAP. In terms of the pumps – we have had good success with the STX recharagble pump 🙂
Hey Craig. Regs the paddle… We haven’t actually got a three-piece Honu paddle here with us at the moment, during the review I was actually using the houn four piece travel paddle which was amazingly good in the surf to be honest.
But I’ve just gone down to the studio and checked three other three-piece paddles and they all fit in the bag. So I don’t think you’ll have a problem with getting a honu one in there either. I hope this helps? Thanks Reuben
I bought the 8’8 and absolutely loving it! Can’t wait to take it on some overseas adventures.
Nice one, glad you love it.
