I’ve been using a Black Project Surge and a Starboard Enduro for about 5 years now, and with the release of the 2 new versions I decided it was time to give you my feedback about these 2 standout surf paddles. Which one is best?… there’s pros and cons to both!

thanks this is a great video. Shaft diameter is an underrated factor. My hobbit-hands prefer 27,5-28mm shafts. Now I have the Velocity M 27,5 and I love it, I had a Lima L 29 and I sold it, for shaft diameter, beyond the different paddling feeling.

Thanks for the video Rueben. I recently purchased a Starboard blue carbon longboard, and was going to get a 1 piece paddle to go with it, and will likely go for the enduro prepreg. Can you please tell me how best to measure what length I should go for, and is it likely to be suitable for my red sport 11’3”. If it’s not, it’s it really an issue, as I’m reasonably happy with my existing paddle I use. Do they come as a longer length, so I can cut it down myself to the appropriate length?
Hi Julian . Thanks for your message. Yes the fix paddles all come in a long length so is easy to cut down. If you are happy using your other paddle at its length with both boards I would cut it down to the length of that. For better performance in the surf you may want to go shorter in the future but it’s easy to recut your paddle again if you want to.

Good vid. My personal experience is, I’ve broken, 2 all carbon paddles within a few months, 1x blade & 1x shaft. All carbon is a bit brittle IMO. I tried a glass carbon and broke the shaft on that too within a few months. I took a chance and bought a less well known brand of carbon kevlar paddle and 3 years later it’s still good, thinking of replacing now as it looks like there are some micro fractures on the shaft and a little bit of water rattling in it. Will buy the same if possible as they’re 1/2… Read more »
