What we say
We take a look at the all new 2024 Starboard Longboard’s, riding the 10 x 29, 9’5 x 30 and 0 x 28 giving you feedback on their performance and helping you decide the right model for you.
The 10ft x 29″ wide longboard turns on a dime and suited to those wanting a more performance longboard shape. The narrower nose and thin rails means it holds well in the wave, but is technical to ride.
Starboard have really nailed this 9’5 x 30″ design. The perfect blend of stability and performance for beginner to intermediate riders.
The 9’0 x 28″ longboard is best suited to riders with some prior experience, but want the comfort of some stability from a 28″ width.

They look great. How about a small track for a sail
Would be good, would add a bit of weight though.
Hi Beau – thank you very much for this. I had a question – I use a Pocket Rocket for small / bad days, and though I’m really happy with it, it’s a bit on the slow side. How would these compare to the PR? Would it be faster and yet have the same stability and ease of use as goes swingaboutability?
Hi Stefan. You would get a bit extra paddle speed from the longboards so that would make them faster both when paddling and when surfing on the wave. They are longer though so that would reduce the manoeuvrability slightly. I’d suggest thinking about a Spice if you’re after manoeuvrability and also paddle speed.
Hi Beau,
I really enjoyed your review and the longboard tech talk!
I’m 6′ 60lb (73kg) riding Starboards 2023 Pro 7’10” x 28” and the Spice 7’11” x 29” (both about 105 L). I’m thinking of getting the Starboard Longboard to mix things up on smaller days. I’m trying to decide between the 9′ X 28″ at 105 L and the the 10’X29″ at 133 L. I suppose the 9′ would be more performance and fun on the wave, but which would be better at catching small waves?
Thanks!
Craig
Hi Craig. Thanks for your comment. The 10ft definitely has more paddle speed to catch waves. However, it is quite a long board with a lot of volume and I think with your weight and size the 9ft would be the best choice. The 10ft would feel like a barge, but would be so easy to paddle and you would catch anything and everything that came through. It would be hard to turn though coming from such small boards with your Spice and Pro. I feel the 9ft has the extra length from your current boards to add paddle speed… Read more »
Thank you Beax, so cool to get advice from a pro!
What a about the 10’x31″?
A great longboard for heavier riders or lower level riders getting into longboard SUP surfing. It still surfs really well, we just didn’t have that size for this video (along with the 9’0 x 26″).
