Monthly Round-up of SUP / August 2023

Welcome to our collection of the biggest news and stories that have taken place in the SUP world from the previous month. Let's recap what happened in August 2023.

7 Nights, 8 Days At Sea - Brendon Prince Completes Challenge

Brendon Prince has completed his incredible 7 nights and 8 days living on a stand up paddle board off the coast of the UK, spending exactly 8 days and 4 minutes on a SUP.

Brendon took off from Torquay Harbour at noon on 25th July 2023. With no support and no supply drops, Brendon had to ‘LIVE’ on the board with everything he needs for this demonstration of paddling and survival whilst using the conditions to stay safe. Not allowed to land, Brendon had to paddle, eat, sleep, repeat on the board for 7 NIGHTS /8 DAYS. The challenge promoted awareness for water safety and Brendon will be raising money for the water safety in education charity- Above Water.

He finished on the 1st August at 4 minutes past noon. Huge congrats to Brendon for completing this challenge. He provided daily updates on the board which you can watch on his Facebook profile.

The challenge is raising money through JUSTGIVING for the water safety charity ABOVE WATER.

Lofoten SUP Expedition - 250km

Donna-Lou Nixon and Rachel Martin have just completed a 250km SUP expedition in and around the Lofoten island chain in Norway. This Article Circle expedition tackled some challenging waters and weather in which they explain in their vlog.

Mother SUPer (Donna-Lou Nixon): This is the adventure of two women from opposite sides of the world, one had a dream and the other said yes. The plan was to Stand Up Paddle as much of the Lofoten Islands in the Arctic Circle that mother nature would allow. This expedition of 250km over 17 days was challenging, exhausting and ever so rewarding, surrounded by the most idyllic scenery in the world.

We supported these inspiring women for their journey, alongside Quroc, Palm Equipment and Travel With A Paddle. Keep an eye out for an interview dropping in the coming months.

Gen R - New Starboard Race SUP

Starboard have just released the new 2024 Gen R. Designed to be fast, user-friendly and has a lower thickness for competing in technical racing, small bumps, and surf conditions.

Starboard SUP: The Gen R is our flat-deck range that fits right in between the Sprint and the All Star, which both feature a dugout design concept. The Sprint is our fastest flat-water model while the All Star is our all-conditions race SUP and the most winning board ever. Innovation through iteration: after seven rounds of prototypes and numerous tests with multiple riders, we reached a design that has impressive acceleration, balanced glide, little splash from the bow, and solid stability when turning.

Our new Gen-R is a key model for surf racing and all-round paddling. The slightly recessed deck has been optimized to have great stability while easy-to-use when beach starting and getting back on the board. Lower rail height and reduced nose thickness is a much-requested feature (especially from our lighter riders) for technical races, buoy turning and easy handling in choppy conditions.

We think the Gen-R is a great fit between the flat water Sprint model and the open ocean/all round All Star model. Additionally, youth riders will love this board for its speed and ease of use.
