Welcome to our collection of the biggest news and stories that have taken place in the SUP world from the previous month. Let's recap what happened in July 2022.
Chris Bertish Completes TransPac Wing Project - Wing Foil
The TransPac Wing Project was a mission to wing across the Pacific from California to Hawaii. Chris Bertish completed this which took 48 days, covering 2465 nautical miles. Congratulations Chris!
It’s been an epic and challenging journey..
“It’s an unbelievable feeling to set a goal that appears insurmountable, do all that you can to achieve it, and reach the finish line far sooner than expected. The first part of the trip was super intense due to extreme weather and coming into the Hawaiian Island with Tropical storm-Darby on my heels, making for some of the most extreme and scary ocean conditions I have ever experienced. But I don’t think it was as frightening as the amount of ocean pollution I saw out in the Pacific along the journey.. I only saw five fish, but saw 67 pieces of floating polystyrene & Plastic, and that in itself tells us how much of a global crisis we really are in and how important these kind of projects are, to create awareness for these issues and stand up and be the change we want to see in the world- in law, policies and action needed to change big business practices..

Lincoln Dews - Yukon River Quest
Lincoln Dews set a new time record for the Yukon River Quest, completing the world’s toughest and alluring marathon paddling race covering 715km / 444 miles from Whitehorse to Dawson City, Yukon. Lincoln’s time was 47:46:32, smashing the previous record by more than 4 hours.
Hard to put into words what transpired over the last few days. The Yukon river quest is truely something special. (Try find me in the middle of the river).
This race demands a level of intensity I’ve never expected before. Facing fatigue and extreme sleep deprivation i drove myself into some very, very dark places. But witu these came some amazing moments (eventually.)
Was cool to see so many SUPs racing this year, and showing that finishing is about perseverance above all else.
Lots of people made this possible. Mainly @sup_n_irish not only convincing me that I’d enjoy it, but for setting up tents, cooking meals, flying drones and formulating my rage strategy when I was too tired to even think.
The on water battle with @bennett.jason and @halfwaytocinawas something else. With only minutes seperating us after 30 hours of paddling. Not sure we would have pushed below 50hrs without this.
My k2 friends (father/ daughter team) @justinschaay@sienna_paddles that kept me company for 250km on the final day.
Advice from @bartdezwart & @normhann
And my sponsors that keeps me warm and feed in a remote part of the world. @sicmaui @blackfish_paddles @clifbar@radixnutrition @zhikaustralia @apsunutrition@high_noon_zinc– Lincoln Dews
APP World Tour - 2022 Schedule Change
The APP World Tour have announced new dates for certain upcoming events in 2022 due to certain circumstances.
The anticipated London City Paddle Festival has been pushed back until 16-18 September due to rail strokes happening across the city and throughout the UK. This event serves as a stop on the racing tour and includes paddling clinics, yoga, youth events and more around the hustling suburb of Canary Wharf.
Alongside this, the surf event in Morocco has been moved to 16-22 November, from it previous dates in September. This bodes well for the surfing athletes as Morocco sees some epic surf conditions throughout October and November.
Stay tuned for more updates from the APP.
