Thanks for the explanation. So why would you want smaller fins if they reduce the drive? Can you have too much and if so how does that feel?
Very good question and it’s something that I should’ve highlighted in the video. Remember that fins do produce drag which can slow you down, so there is always a balance between finding the right fin for the type of riding you need but make sure it’s not too big to not slow your board down. Like everything it’s a compromise. Playing around with pins and boards is the only real way to find the perfect set up for you. And in this video I just wanted to highlight the very basic theory behind drive and how to feel it.

Thanks for the input Reuben. What‘s about bonzer side fins with different cant? Does it make sense to get more drive for supsurfing?
O Kurt, now that’s a question! The way I understand it is. The importance to the cant of the fins is to give the board more grip when on a hard turn because the inside fin is more vertical when in the turn. But because of this cant the fin has to be wide and short so the board has enough drive but can still carve well. Yes I feel it should give you more drive when SUPing but like anything there will be a compromise. It will slow the turns down. Are you thinking of giving this setup a… Read more »

You explained it very well, thx. I think I‘ll try my fcs bonzers on holiday now … they are short and wide. May be they speed up my SB Whopper 9.5.
Good idea
