After reviewing the 2017 Starboard Hypernut 7’8” x 30” last year we were excited to see what changes there would be in the 2018 board range. We loved the super small, manoeuvrable Hypernut but found it a little twitchy in the bigger stuff due to its lack of rocker and length. Well in 2018 it looks like Starboard have taken note of these issues and added more boards to the range too. We can’t wait to get our hands on some of the 2018 inflatable boards.
NEW 8’x 29” Surf 142L
Starboard say : ‘8’0″ x 29″ Surf – Pulled in nose increases speed down the line, fits into tighter pockets of the wave and has faster bottom and top turns’.
SB: We love the look of the new shape. And the extra nose rocker is going to make surfing this board a lot of fun in bigger, more full on surf.
9’x30” Converse Surf 201L
Starboard say : ‘9’0″ x 30″ Converse Surf – Longest and widest shape for added glide and stability to learn the basics of SUP Surfing.’
SB: If it offers similar performance to the smaller 8′, but for the bigger riders or the riders wanting to get into isup surfing for the first time… bring it on!
7’4”x 30 Hyper Nut 165L
Starboard say : ‘7’8″ x 30″ Hyper Nut – Short length gives easier manoeuvrability to turn in direction of the wave, while the wide nose for nose riding and wide tail for stability when turning.’
SB: We loved it last year,. Its quad setup made this board the most manoeuvrable isup out there in 2017. A real winner in the smaller surf.
NEW 7’x 30” Hyper Nut Foil 174L
Starboard say : ‘7’4″ x 30″ Hyper Nut Foil – Short length combined with the wide nose and tail increases stability and makes it easier to control the foil angle to get up and riding with little movement.’
SB: This just makes perfect sense. An inflatable board that takes a foil…. EPIC!
All the boards come with good quality fins and their new Double Chamber Technology which is meant to increases overall stiffness and help to generate more power and control. The 2018 Starboard iSUP range looks like they have raised the iSUP surfing level yet again. Look out for the 2018 Starboard SUPboarder reviews coming soon.

Hi there,
when do you think the review will come out? I am very interested in a review regarding the Surf 8.0, /9.0 which really looks good….
Regards Sally
Hi Sally, Thanks for the comment. It looks like we might have to wait a little longer yet. We really wanted to get on these boards asap, but couldn’t get hold of one yet. We will chase up and try and get a review out for you and the many other that have asked for it. Thanks for your patience.
