It’s that time of year again. The time where the SUP surfing level gets pushed that little bit more. Where boards, paddles and surfers are pushed to their max, to try and claim that world title. The 2016 Stand Up World Tour is about to hit Oahu. Kicking off first will be the women event held at Turtle Bay on the North Shore of Oahu. 20 women will be taking to the water over the next few days, and this year the womens level will no doubt be raised even more. The conditions are looking great with perfect swell and wind set to hit the first day of compition. Can Izzi Gomez take the 2016 title, as she has done the last 2 years? It’s not going to be easy for her, that’s for sure, with girls like Fiona Wylde, Shakira Westdorp, Sophia Bartlow (and the list goes on!) in her way.
Then straight after the womens competition at Turtle Bay it’s time to head to the mens competition and big wave destination at Sunset Beach. Just like the womens, the mens field of competitors is fierce. The current 2015 World Champion Ciao Vaz won’t have time to relax because big names like Zane Schweitzer, Kai Lenny, Mo Freitas and young Poenaiki Raioha are bound to be charging hard. Put them in the World Tour mix with about 20 other guys and 2016 looks like it’s going to be a belter.
Good luck to all.
