Sam Thom, a young Kiwi from Auckland, New Zealand has just completed his SUP dream of paddling around Waiheke Island off the coast of Auckland. The island is the New Zealand equivalent to our Isle of Wight.
We all have our own SUP challenges and goals, whether it’s learning to get that certain maneuver nailed or paddle somewhere that has never been paddle before.
Sam said “On Sunday July 21, 2013, I set off on a mission to circumnavigate Auckland’s Waiheke Island on my Stand-Up Paddleboard. Waiheke Island is Auckland’s largest island and the journey was 54 Km and took 8 hours. I never got off my board throughout the trip and found 8 hours of constant paddling exhausting but was extremely satisfied to successfully finish the mission and to achieve a life goal!”
Well done Sam and thanks for sending us the video of your SUP challenge. If you are doing a SUP challenge remember to tell the SUPboarder team about it here.
It seems to be the week of circumnavigation by SUP, with our very own Mark Slater paddling around the the Isle of Wight, read here. Maybe Sam and Mark should get together for a paddle sometime and do a combined challenge!
