What we say
What the brand says
“Ridiculous performance for a board of this width, which defies logic.”
At 33″ wide, the Hero is an extremely stable shorter-length board. What is surprising, is how well the board turns. Not only in small surf where it’s ultra-responsive, but in handling larger waves as well.
Tight pocket turns with tail release happens with ease, and energy is saved for surfing instead of balancing, allowing the Hero within to be unleashed.
Available in ASAP, AST Electric, Wood & Brushed Carbon.

Hi,
Recently bought a 9′ Hero ”ASAP” starboard and wanted to know if there were any performance differences between that and the normal 9’Hero.
thanks
Andrew
Hi Andrew, The difference between an ASAP construction and glass or carbon is in the stiffness and the rail shape. The board will have a bit more flex which will make the ride a little bit slower and because the rail shape is softer (not a sharpe) the board will turn a little slower too. A carbon or glass Hero would feel a little bit livelier. But until you are doing more progressive rail to rail turns the boards would feel very similar. Hope that helps? Reuben
Hi there! Has the Hero gone through any changes over the past 9 of 10 years, in terms of outline/rail/rocker or volume?
Thanks
Robert
Robert – its no longer in the range but as most of the Starboard products probably had tweaks every year or so. while it was available.
Both the Hero and Whoppers’ are their best selling models. ‘Not available in the U.K.’ is not the same as ‘discontinued’. In fact, I just bought a 2019 model 🙂
Ah yes, our mistake – it is in the range, its just now a part of the Wide Ride or Whopper range whereas before it used to be a stand a lone model! Its not on the UK stock list, but is available for order 🙂
