What we say
Watch tested video
Palm have brought out yet another SUP specific PFD in the form of the Riff which is a well designed, comfortable and high quality product. The Palm Riff is made from Gaia non-PVC foam which makes it environmentally friendly too.
We had lots of great feedback from those riders in the SUPboarder Pro Test (link above) of 20 different buoyancy aids. It is a very useful PFD, especially if you’re an intermediate or advanced paddler looking for a quality PFD allowing good freedom of movement and some storage.
A down side we found of having a thicker more compact PFD with a front pocket too is making it harder to climb back on your SUP. So if you’re a beginner who spends a lot of time climbing back on your board this is definitely something to consider and you may be better suited to a thinner, flatter, more simple PFD such as the Palm Solo.
Palm has a huge range of buoyancy aids and other SUP specific products like dry suits, base layers and safety gear so make sure to check out their website for all of their great gear.
As a safety note, definitely try a buoyancy aid on first to make sure it fits correctly and you like the feel of it.
Got a question about this product?
Pros: Comfortable, storage, eco friendly and great freedom of movement.
Cons: Front pocket and thick foam makes climbing back your SUP on hard.
Consider buying if... You do white water runs and need a PFD that's comfortable. You're an everyday paddler who needs a safety device and can confidently climb back on your board.
