What we say
The Infinity Escape Pod surprised all of us with how well it performed. As an alternative shape, it’s always tough to get into a rhythm during the first few sessions, but we all connected with it straight away. The speed this board carries across the wave is unbelievable. We were making sections that we otherwise would not have on any standard surf SUP shape.
The bottom of the board consists of a rolled vee running throughout the length of the board. With an entry rolled bottom that funnels back into double concaves by the fins, the water flow is what makes this board fast. Coupled with the twin fins and wide tail, you get loads of surface area to easily float you over small, flatter and weaker sections on the wave.
This is 100% a board you should have added to your quiver. This is not a ‘one board for all conditions’, it’s definitely meant to compliment your quiver for those smaller wave days.

Board weight: 5.82kg
Fin set up: Twin Fin
Pros: The construction is super durable. The board is really lightweight. Its is by far the fastest board we have ever ridden, which says a lot because it is also one of the shortest and lowest volume boards.
Cons: Although the deck is flat, the rails are quite severely dropped which means if you catch a rail when paddling or surfing, the board tracks in that direction. The white deck pad will get dirty. The handle is quite small and could be slightly deeper.
Consider buying if... You need another board to add to your quiver for those smaller, weaker wave days. The Escape Pod can be used instead of a longboard SUP, so if you don't like the longer boards, or want to compliment your longboard SUP, buy this board.

What the brand says
“Performance Twin Fin Design”
The Escape Pod is a modern evolution from our groundbreaking shape the "Phoenix" that was originally introduced in 2015 and quickly became our best selling model for 3 years straight with the range expanding to 4 versions. This shape helped usher in the under 8' SUP surf era when originally most people did not think it was possible to ride a SUP that short.
Team Rider Bernd Roediger's style and approach to riding waves was a perfect match to launch this new design. Together with shaper Dave Boehne the "flow bros" quite possibly have come up with the most fun SUP surf board ever.
Escape Pod boards are short, wide, and carry more volume than your typical board. This allows riders to go much shorter while maintaining fantastic stability and paddle speed. It's not outrageous to ride this board 1' or more shorter than your current daily driver.
The straighter outline and wider tail allow the board to have automatic speed from take off and get the board up and planing on its own. We match that up with the low drag twin fin set up for unmatched speed and maneuverability.
The bottom shape has a slight "rolled" belly entry that creates lift which flows into a fast speedy section in the middle of the board and transitions into a wide vee concave that matches up with the fin placement for rail to rail flow and control. The "hex" tail works at multiple touch points in different parts of the wave and aides in hollower waves with some bite.
Although the board is short and thick we've managed to hide the volume in the middle of the board with nice tapered angular rails and a subtle "s" deck which thins out the nose and tail for even more swing weight response.
This board is meant for waves head high and below, Both quick beach break and open face reef type waves, the typical everyday stuff most of us surf on a day to day basis. Fast down the line and race out the section. Speed around the corner and throw a big carve. More advanced riders can push this shape in to other territories. Bernd has competed on this board multiple times and took 1st Place at the Carolina Pro-Am twice on this shape.
-Twin Fin
-Fast, Stable, Very maneuverable
-Small wave performance and unmatched speed
-Beginner to advanced riders who want a unique small wave experience
-Construction is the same as our entire surf range with full carbon SUPspensionTECH
Too lively for me ….and too fast…looks great fun if you can surf them well. His designs are really interesting. I have a New Deal which is great but I agree the handle is too shallow and it is something I see others commenting on a fair bit but they don’t seem to want to listen or change it. It really can be a drawback in the UK because in winter with gloves on you struggle to get your hands/fingers in and get good grip on a windier day. If you have a long walk to water, large hands and… Read more »
Hi Steve. Thanks very much for your feedback about the Escape Pod. Hopefully Dave will see these comments and take them into consideration for future boards.
ha ha doubt it…I posted something similar re the handle on his FBook Infinity page but no reaction from him. Never mind…only a small thing and okay if yiu are in warmer climate or have tiny fingers Someone said it all about weight saving which I thought was a load of horlicks. The board looks super fast…you can see it takes off like an efoil!
Well, I’ll eat my words. It looks like Infinity are at last listening and are now looking to better their carry handle on their boards so that you can properly grab it. I think your video may have helped get the message over.
Thanks Steve. Thats what we are here for.

Thanks Beau. The question I then have is – the Escape Pod or the 9’5 Starboard Longboard as a groveler to complement my 8’7 Pro?
It all depends if you want to noseride. If you do, then go for the longboard. If not, then the Escape Pod is the better option. Hope that helps.
Thank you very much. It did.
Hi Beau, great review as always. Looks a lot of fun if you have the skills. As you say maybe a good option for SUP longboarders trying something different, although still having fun on the Fanatic Stylemaster 10; which also has too shallow a handle compared to my old Naish. Keep up the good work. Tx Micky
Hi Micky! Nice to hear from you. Hope you have been able to get on the water lately. The Escape Pod is a great alternative, but if you’re enjoying the longboard stick with it. Thanks for the comment and hope to see you soon. Thanks.
Great review – I have an L41 ST, same rider weight and board volume, that I think is very similar to this board and just as you said, it’s perfect when there are longboard conditions but you want to crank turns, especially on beach breaks with shorter rides. I’m curious whether low rocker and short length will be tricky on steeper sections in head high beach break (where my L41 gets dicey). Would be great to hear what you find.
Hi Jonny. Thanks for the comment. Quite similar indeed to the L41 ST. The Escape Pod, being such a short shape, I feel it would actually handle steeper waves but nothing bigger than head high. It would be super fast, however it might be hard doing turns in steeper sections as that’s where a rockered shape comes alive. If it’s just to fly through the sections and get to the shoulder, then perfect. We didn’t manage to ride it in steeper bigger waves as the conditions didn’t allow during the testing period. Hope that helps.
Hi Beau, many thanks for the great review! It really seems to be a great board! How would you compare it to the Smik Hipster Twin “pin“? I have had plenty of fun sessions with my 7’10 Smik on small waves… Would the Infinity be too similar to the Smik or would it be a great addition?
Hi Philipp, hope you are well. Thanks for the comment. The Infinity is definitely a different board to the SMIK Hipster and I feel it would compliment it. The SMIK has a broad range of wave heights and it leans more toward a ‘standard’ surf shape compared to the Escape Pod. If you were to have the two board in your quiver, the SMIK would be used when the waves are bigger and more powerful, and the Infinity Escape Pod when the waves are smaller and weaker and you need some extra speed on the wave. In saying this, if… Read more »
I like how light and transportable this board looks.I find ease of transportation is a high priority for me. Also, I have the 2024 Wedge with a white deck pad on a third of the board. It gets really dirty . I think a white deck pad is a dumb idea.
Hey Cam, Light colour deck pads do look great but aren’t very good for paddlers who surf in browner sandy beaches.
