La Nord SUP Challenge 2026

Held under the event’s traditional waiting period — spanning from November 1, 2025, to April 1, 2026 — the competition only ran on days meeting strict minimum wave requirements, ensuring athletes faced truly challenging ocean conditions. La Nord’s heavy beach break and offshore winds pushed swell heights into the 3-metre range, with some sets producing sizeable barrels and high-octane performances.

In the SUP division, Breton paddler Benoît Carpentier dominated the field, bringing home first place with an outstanding performance that capitalised on both wave selection and aggressive manoeuvring in demanding surf. French rider Clément Roseyro took second, while Gabriel Bachelet rounded out the podium in third.

The event’s blended format — pairing SUP with traditional big-wave surfing — reflects La Nord’s growing reputation as a proving ground for riders who thrive in raw Atlantic conditions. While the surf competition often attracts headline attention, the SUP challenge has emerged as a highlight of the day, showcasing the versatility and courage of paddle athletes tackling waves more commonly associated with elite surfing.

Organised by the Landes de Surf Committee and hosted by the Hossegor Surf Club, the Rip Curl Challenge La Nord remains a cornerstone of France’s winter surf calendar and a benchmark event for SUP athletes testing their limits in big water. With strong performances across both disciplines, the 2026 edition reaffirmed the event’s status as a key date for ocean sports competitors and fans.
