GBSUP Officially Launches 2026 Season with “Join the Future” Strategy and National Calendar

GBSUP has officially kicked off its 2026 stand-up paddleboard (SUP) racing season with a live broadcast unveiling its “Join the Future” strategic vision and a comprehensive national race calendar. The broadcast, which marked the start of the new season for the UK paddle racing community, showcased major developments in competition structure, athlete pathways and event format.

The central theme of the launch – “Join the Future” – outlines a five-year plan focused on expanding junior development programs, integrating new technologies for safety and engagement, fostering a stronger racing community and improving long-term sustainability of the sport.

A Truly National Series

GBSUP’s 2026 calendar promises widespread geographic coverage, bringing events to all regions of the UK. Key dates and venues include:

  • May 2–3: Llandegfedd Pursuit in South Wales

  • May 31: National Sprint Championships in Nottingham

  • June 6–7: British National Championships in Liverpool – the flagship event

  • June 20: Strathclyde Sprint Regatta 1 in Scotland (new addition)

  • July 4–5: Battle of the Bay & International Selection event on the South Coast

  • August 1: Loch Lomond Distance race in Scotland

  • August 22: Strathclyde Sprint Regatta 2 (Scotland)

  • September 19–20: Windermere race in the North West

  • October 3–4: Sovereign Showdown Finale in Ramsgate

Scoring and Competition Enhancements

A revamped scoring system will see athletes’ best seven results count toward their overall ranking, with certain physically demanding events carrying weighted point multipliers. This aims to reward performance across a variety of conditions and distances. Additionally, the 14’ iSUP fleet will benefit from a refined scoring model that integrates the Airline Cup into its own domestic leaderboard.

Sprint Racing and International Selection

Speed disciplines receive a boost in 2026, with new sprint regattas introduced at Strathclyde Country Park in June and August. The international selection event at Battle of the Bay will serve as an opportunity for athletes to earn places for Team GB at this year’s ICF World Championships, with conditions designed to mirror those expected at the world stage.

Accessibility and Participation

GBSUP emphasises accessibility with flexible entry options that do not require membership. Competitors can enter individual events or opt for a season ticket, with pricing structured to support wide participation. Leisure categories and junior races, including free entry for novice youth competitors, are designed to encourage broader engagement in the sport.

As the season unfolds, detailed event information, rulebooks and entry windows will continue to be released. GBSUP’s communications channels and mailing list are being highlighted as key resources for racers planning their 2026 campaigns.
