APP World Championships in SUP Surfing Get Underway in Gran Canaria

The Gran Canaria Pro-Am will once again serve as the sole championship contest for APP SUP surfing, meaning every heat, every wave and every score directly determines the 2025 world champions. With no cumulative tour points to fall back on, the pressure is immediate and unrelenting from the opening rounds.

Competition will run across the event’s established dual venues at La Cícer (Las Canteras) and El Lloret, allowing organisers to align divisions with the most suitable conditions. Gran Canaria’s powerful Atlantic swell and technical breaks have consistently delivered world-class performances, making it a fitting stage for championship decisions.

The event will crown world champions across a full slate of divisions, including:

• SUP Surfing (Performance) – Men and Women

• SUP Surfing (Longboard) – Men and Women

• Junior / U21 divisions

• Masters division

This structure ensures that world titles are awarded across multiple generations and disciplines, reflecting the breadth and depth of modern SUP surfing.

As the only opportunity to claim an APP world title in SUP surfing this year, the Gran Canaria championships carry added intensity. Established champions arrive with reputations to defend, while challengers know that a single standout performance can secure their place in the sport’s history.

With conditions expected to play a decisive role, strategy, wave selection and composure will be just as critical as progressive manoeuvres. By the end of the waiting period, Gran Canaria will once again have defined the standard for SUP surfing at the highest level.
