The WingFoil Racing World Championships unfolded on the stunning volcanic island of Terceira in the Azores, where unpredictable weather and challenging conditions tested the world’s best riders. Youth and Masters competitors battled fiercely across multiple races, showcasing skill, determination, and the growing global appeal of the sport.
Youth Champions: Rising Stars Shine
Youth Boys: Seventeen-year-old Italian Ernesto de Amicis clinched the inaugural Youth World Champion title with back-to-back victories in the finals. New Zealand’s Kosta Gladiadis, also 17, impressed with consistent performances throughout the event. Czechia’s Stepan Benes secured the bronze.
Youth Girls: China’s Yana Li, 16, overcame early setbacks to win three consecutive races in the grand final, capturing the World title. Italy’s Lara Talarico, just 12, earned silver, while Hong Kong’s Claire Tian Yu Tse took bronze.
Masters Fleet: Experience Prevails
Eighteen athletes from ten nations, all over the age of 35 and collectively boasting an incredible 900 years of experience, competed fiercely for the Masters World Title. Britain’s Chris Rashley took command in challenging high-wind conditions, securing the Masters World Champion title. Rashley, who usually coaches his wife, Anaïs-Mai Desjardins, enjoyed a role reversal in the Azores with Desjardins coaching him to victory.
This historic event not only showcased the depth of talent across age groups but also highlighted the global appeal and rapid growth of WingFoil Racing. The Azores proved to be a fitting backdrop for this milestone in the sport’s history.
