Champions Crowned at the 2025 Australian SUP Titles

The 2025 Australian SUP Titles wrapped up in style this week at Phillip Island, showcasing the nation’s best stand-up paddlers across both surfing and racing divisions. With small but clean waves and light offshore winds, competitors made the most of the classic Victorian conditions to battle it out for national titles.

Surfing Divisions: Takle and Dunning Claim Top Honours

In the Thermos Open Men, local Victorian Matt Takle impressed judges with power and precision to score a near-perfect 16.00 and claim the Australian title. NSW’s Blaire Moore followed in second with 13.33, edging out Connor Linz (NSW) and Ben Mardon (WA).
In the Thermos Open Women, Rebecca Dunning (NSW) continued her excellent competitive form, taking top spot with 11.17 ahead of Queensland’s Ke’ale Dorries on 8.10.

Dunning’s dominance didn’t stop there — she also secured wins in both the O40 Women and Technical Race O40 Women divisions, as well as the Marathon O40 Women category, marking a standout performance across disciplines.

Veteran Dave Sheen (WA) once again proved unstoppable, claiming victory in both the O60 Men and 9ft+ O60 Mendivisions with trademark flow and style. Other standout performances included Marty Cole (NSW), who won the O40 Men and 9ft+ Open Men titles, demonstrating consistency and power surfing across both divisions.

In the women’s longboard-inspired 9ft+ divisions, Lucy Bell (VIC) took home the O40 Women’s title, while Juanita Read (QLD) finished close behind. The next generation was also on display, with Willa Webb (VIC) taking out the U18 Junior Women’s crown.

Race Divisions: Cruz and Nolan Power to Marathon Wins

Racing action was fierce with technical and marathon courses testing paddlers’ endurance, tactics, and ocean-reading ability.

Queensland’s Juan Cruz claimed the Open Men’s Marathon, while local favourite Sorelle Nolan (VIC) powered to victory in the Open Women’s Marathon.

In the Technical Races, Connor Linz (NSW) and Ke’ale Dorries (QLD) took out the Open Men and Women titles respectively, while Warwick Lee (VIC) and Dave Warner (VIC) dominated their age groups. NSW’s Hayden Coppingshowed his strength in the prone divisions, claiming both the Technical and Marathon Open Men Prone titles.

A Celebration of SUP Across All Disciplines

The event once again highlighted the diversity and community spirit within the Australian SUP scene, bringing together surfers, racers, and prone paddlers from across the country. From the clean lines of Right Point to the open water grind of the marathon course, competitors were treated to the full spectrum of conditions Phillip Island has to offer.

Event organisers thanked all competitors, volunteers, and supporters for making the 2025 edition a standout success.

“The camaraderie and stoke throughout the week was incredible,” said organisers. “It’s great to see the level of competition and sportsmanship continue to rise each year.”
