In this how to video we speak about progressing fast in foiling as a beginner, focusing on your foil set up.
When you are getting into foiling the right foil will really support your development. You need certain things from your foil to be able to learn / progress easily.
For all beginner foils these things are important…
- Early and smooth lift
- Stable flight
- Stiffness
- Durable / suitably engineered
- Breach warning
- Good stabilisers design
- Price point
- Forward compatibility – allow you to buy more and progress
Some brands, including Armstrong have put all their learning in high performance foils into optimising foils for beginner foilers, and the results of this development really DO make a difference. A foil like the Armstrong Step 1 epitomises everything a beginner should look for in a foil.
We hope this video highlights what you need to look for in a first time foil. And if you are interested in buying a foil to start foiling the Armstrong S1 set up should definitely be at the top of the list for sure.

This is a general question about getting in to foiling especially wing foiling. Do you need to learn to wing on a sup first then progress to a foil? Do you know of anyone in the North Devon/ Cornwall area that teaches winging on sup or foil ?
Many Thanks
Rod

Sorry Im a bit out of the instructor… Read more »
