SUP The Creek race took place on the 26th and 27th October at South Sands, Salcombe, UK with the tech race and distance race.
Now in its ninth year, SUP The Creek in Devon has become a major SUP race run by Waterborn SUP, drawing competitors from across the UK and abroad to close out the season. This year’s event kicked off on October 26th at South Sands, Salcombe, with a tech race challenging paddlers through beach runs, buoy turns, tides, waves, and swells. Under sunny skies, participants tackled choppy waters, navigating the course from South Sands to North Sands and back, with some catching waves while others chose to bypass them.
Safety teams escorted a few paddlers back to shore, underscoring the challenging conditions. Nevertheless, participants displayed grit and determination, with Paul Simmons, Zoltan Erdelyi, and Dave taking the men’s 14’ podium and Annabel Page, Holly Pye, and Marie Buchanan topping the women’s.
Sunday featured distance races under ideal conditions, with a range of 1km to 12km courses and fantastic weather drawing spectators. The 12km race saw strong performances, with podium repeats from both men’s and women’s tech race winners. Juniors made a notable showing, too, with Waterborn Club’s George Stone and Fleur Everitt winning the 1km for the 10-14 category.
With beautiful weather and enthusiastic support, the weekend was a success, thanks to sponsors, volunteers, and the paddlers who came together to celebrate SUP. Here’s to next year’s 10th anniversary!
