Paddling with your dog can be a lot of fun for you both. Whether you have a new puppy or an older dog getting his paws on a board for the first time, we hope this video helps...
In this video we share some tips on how best to introduce your dog to a SUP, so hopefully they’ll be keen to jump onboard willingly for more! Of course we aren’t dog trainers and every dog will take to the water and a board differently. But this is how we did it, and what worked well for us and our dog. We now have a dog that happily jumps on board, tail wagging and joins us for a family paddle. We hope you find it useful.
Choosing a nice stable board, getting them used to the board on land first, and finding a quiet calm location to take them out in to begin with, will really help make the first experiences successful and more enjoyable for you both. However eager you are for them to join you, don’t rush it, and then they’ll be more likely to want to do it again! Never tie your dog onto the board.
Disclaimer… You do see us on the water at times without wearing a leash or a personal flotation device. We have choosen to do this as we are still getting the dog used to the board, getting on/off lots and paddling in shallow water. Please use your common sense when you are paddling with you dogs for the first time.
