Maybe not the rave reviews I was expecting, but very interesting and informative and great looking boards.
I’ve got the 7ft Wingboard waiting for my foil to arrive and can’t wait to try it.
I’ve winged on my sups/windsups. I’ve paddled a friend’s 6ft fanatic sky wing so looking forward to getting out there.
Hey Johnny. Did you want more info and was the review not up to the usual standard? All ways up for criticism.
I really thing the wing board is a great board for getting into wing and it really does make gybes easier for sure.
I had a really fun session with it one night ( not on camera) so easy because of the big concaved deck!
It was a good and interesting review with loads of info and your ratings above show you liked them, but I guess I’m used to you really raving about how good the Starboards usually are, and you seemed more conservative on these, maybe with it being more of a comparison from one to the other. I also felt the riding in the footage wasn’t as smooth as some of your other reviews (no offence lol), which made me wonder if they were harder to ride, but I guess that’s maybe more down to the foils and conditions? only other info… Read more »
I have to say that you are super observant Johnny. The riding in the video is different to others and TBH its was the foils we were finding it harder to get our heads into. We had been using Armstrong foils for about 3 weeks before this video and then jumping on the new Starboard foils do fell very different. I think in the future we may have to go down the route of using non branded foils. But having said that this doesn’t effect what was said in the video. We still used these boards with other foil set… Read more »
Interesting review chaps . looking at Will’s riding I can only assume he was wishing he was on a smoother foil . His Pitch was up and down like a yoyo. TBH its all about the foil in my opinion , the boards make such a small difference . More marketing and aesthetic to the layman to wade through.
Yes, the foils did take a bit of getting used to which is why we have been discussing riding a standard foil when reviewing a board to be able to get better feedback without having to get used to a foil set up (see comments above). The foil is so important when up and riding you are right but I’m beginning to feel more and more that we discount the boards design – particularly when people are learning and it has more interaction with the water. Theres a lot of design feature that can help with first flights. Exciting times!
Excellent review, It has been so hard to find anything about the SB Wingboards online. As a fan of the brand from my windsurfing, I tend to trust SB’s deep tendencies towards R&D and not needing to follow the market trends.. that said, with the Wingboards they have gone more long and more narrow as compared to other wing boards.. generally.. Yes, shorter then the SUP being compared to here, but longer and narrower than other pure wing boards. I’d love to get other input on that.. My guess is that the target market for the longer SB boards is… Read more »
Hey Stephen. I really do hear what you are saying. Myself and Will deliberated for a long time about what you are saying regarding length widths and volumes of the boards. And we are still not 100% sure what the best answer is. I personally do like a board a little bit shorter overall, it just gives me that reduced swing weight and is much easier for me to use in the surf and when pumping back out. The big problem though and possibly the main reason why Starboard have not gone down this supershort route is because of the… Read more »
