Hey guys,
I am thinking about getting into more Touring/Downwinding – and there is a Loco Motion air inflatable 14ft x 29 on offer nearby, but I really struggle to convince myself of an inflatable, in particular as space and transport are no issue – any experiences with those, or should I keep looking for a hard board …
Hey Hanno. If space isn’t a problem I would stick with the hard boards. The performance gain you will get in open sea conditions (especially downwinding) is so much greater than with an iSUP. iSUPs are great for flatwater and ease of touring and transport. You would love a board with a nose shape like a Starboard Generation. Maybe looking out for a wider open water race board second hand wide be a good idea. Or JP Australia GT All water ?!

great vid as always!! regards to the question about the airline. i’ll use me as a reference, last year 44yrs old, 5ft8, 73kg , suping around 5yrs. i completed the Thames ultra 75km at an average speed of 7kph (there was a brutal head wind, and 16 locks), 10hrs 30ish, on a 2018 14 x28 airline. i also did the Wye 100 on this board with all my camping gear. both recorded on Geosup 😉 Will the board be faster – yes , but what you would notice more is that it will glide better, meaning it’ll take less effort… Read more »

Leash release. I use a Leash-Lok waist leash surfing leash, and it has a great release on it, and you can get to it easily, as its on your waist. Had an issue with my leash getting caught under a wood piling while surfing, so I decided to get it, despite how kooky it looks. Plus it doesn’t get caught as much while surfing.
Hey Sean. This is another great comment and Suggestion. It’s funny how we all use ankle lashes when surfing but like you said if you bring your leash higher up your body it will drag in the water way less. I’m sure there’s pros and cons but it’s something I think I’m going to start looking into. Good suggestion.
I never thought about the drag situation–I guess its a good bonus. Just love that when I go over the falls, it pulls my waist and not my ankle, and pulling back my board is a bit easier and quicker. Now if only there was a way to have my board always end right side up when I wipe out!
Great video, and particularly interested in the airline question as I tried one at a demo day in 2019 not knowing a lot about it, just as a suggestion from the rep, and loved it. Intended to re compare the 26 versus 28 width this year, but COVID put an end to that.
The current airline has been out a couple of years now (I think) does that mean it is likely to be imminently to be replaced by an upgraded model? Won’t hold you to the answer, just welcome your experienced views Thanks Kerry
Hey Kerry Thanks for the comment. Between you and me and rest of the paddlers that will read this comment lol! I know there’s a new board coming. But unsure exactly when though.. I think Starboard might hold back some of their new releases on their inflatable paddleboards due to covid issues. But I’m not 100% sure on timings, sorry.

I know its so annoying!
