In this video we’re going to explain the basics of winging upwind, and what you need to do to make your wing surfer go upwind when using an iSUP and a composite board…

I like the look of the new Naish wing. Hope it’s got improved performance. Looks potentially a good addition for the season if I can save the £££. And of course my version of a drift stopper is ready to try.
Yeah we have a full review coming on it. Really nice improvements for the Naish S25 this year.
Excellent video, very useful. Thanks guys.
hope it helps.
Ive watched that video 3 times and am still learning something new everytime, am really getting there but I must try the tack next time
This is great to hear.
Great information. Thank you for this video! Perhaps it is worth mentioning that the iSUP in this video (WindSUP) has a center fin, which makes tacking much easier. And thank you for listing the gear that you used. This is a great starting point for my research and comparisons. I wonder what would be the minimal “no-go zone” for a regular iSUP with no center fin and no drift-stopper? I doubt that it is 90° – could be well larger than 180°. Or is it possible to return at least to the same point where you started winging on a… Read more »
Hey Boran , Thanks for sending over your comment. You have made me realise that i made a mistake I have made in this post. In the video I was using a standard iSUP with no centre Fin. see the pic attached.(no screw UJ thread on it) I listed the wrong board in the below post equipment used. It would’ve been easier to use a board with a centre fin for sure.. I will make a note in post now and highlight this. With the good tech you can use a normal iSUP and go upwind for sure. it does… Read more »
Great video with informative explanation!
Tried today first time on my own isup (without drift stoppers which are still on shipment), not the ideal condition due to pretty choppy sea.
It was very noticeable how harder it is to go upwind without a center fin, and it was even harder due to the isup thickness it is almost impossible to break the waves on the side.
Need a few more sessions to get better at this.
P. S the ‘walk of shame’ with a wing and an isup is one horrible workout hehehehe
Good effort Eran. You will be surprised how much better you will do after a few sessions. Don’t worry about the walk of shame, we have all done it !
Hi,
Very interesting video. I’m getting into Wing, but haven’t got a foil board yet. So i’m trying with SUP boards.
I stumbled into this video from the youtube free video.
It would be nice if you could compile the tutorials videos in one page about Wing for beginners.
I find it difficult to find those videos in the site’s interface
Kind regards,
Michel
Hi Michel, TBH we are doing this over the next few months. We have too many videos now and like you say we could really do with having stuff in an easy to find way on the site. So this new site will really help with this. Hope you find the videos useful and thanks for your patience. Reuben
I’ve been practicing a few session with à Gong 9’5 shortboard iSUP ( 3 fins setup) and I am now able to get a bit upwind and return to the point where I started from. At first my board always tended to go quickly downwind and loosing ground, then the one thing that really worked well for me was to take the wing from the water with the front handle in one hand and the first handle of the center strut in the other. This kind of locks the wing in the wind and allows me to quickly direct the… Read more »
This is great to hear and also a great tip that others could learn from. Thanks for sharing and commenting.
I hope you keep enjoying your progression and any more questions let us know. Thanks Reuben
