4 guys have bought the new all star 14 footer for racing our Circuito de Mediteraneo in Spain. They are all good paddlers who had the previous all star model. All have really struggled with the stability of this model. Three are now on the second hand market!!! Must mean something!!
Thanks for the feedback. This is really interesting to hear. So obviously these guys didn’t like the new feel of the ALL Star in the chop. Do you know what they thought about the overall speed? Keep the comments coming SUPtester.
Well its a tough question. Because it all comes down to what conditions and what level of paddler. Both new Starboards are fast for surer and the All Star is a very fast board for a good level of paddler.

Hey, I see you are reviewing the all star 26 width. How about the 24.5 ? Is there a major difference, mostly about stability ? Maybe the NW fin will help ?
Hey Nic, The 24.5 should have very much the same feel as the 26. Just a little faster and obviously a little less stable. A bigger wider fin will help the stability a little. Are you looking to buy one?
Hi Reuben, many thanks for this review and the comprehensive comparison of 7 allwater boards. A round hull is always faster because of the smaller area that is wetted by the water. Nevertheless, they switched to more stable forms over time. So what would be the recommendation for an advanced paddler (85 to 90 kg) who paddles 350 to 500km a year and feels quiet comfortable on a (e.g. SIC RS 24.5 ) or the previous All Stars? Starboard says 60 to 90kg for the 24.5.
Hi, Well there’s a lot of choice out there for you as you know. Do you own a SIC RS now? Or is this something that you just tried? The Starboard 2020 24.5 would be the right size is you are a more advanced paddler, looking for top performance. A board like the SIC would be a great all round board but probably wont give you as much top end performance as a Starboard. But this will really come down to ability and conditions used in. Thoughts?
Hi, yes, I’ve tried and own a RS 24.5 (1st series). It is between the JP Flatwater 23 (2017) or redpaddle elite 25 and the BullitV2 (2016) I have as well. I’d like to try the Starboard. Maybe I can find a testboard somewhere this spring-time. I think, it might be the same I learned with my JP, which is also woobly at the very beginning (with my 87kg and compared to dug-out boards). After short time (100km) you get used to and its fine.
I guess the ratings have been swapped for the boards?
