Dear Reuben – so Will said you ‘loved’ this board. So I have two kids – if (IF) i could take a hard board to a surf holiday I would. But it is a compromise. I want to surf with my son, (5) stick him on the front and surf prone. At the same time carrying so so much gear with a hard board is a real pain, and not family friendly…. travel cot, bag, food, clothing etc etc….. So, I’m a family man, i’m 70-75kg. I sup surf. But I cannot justify taking one of my hard boards with… Read more »
Hey Joe ITIWIT 8′! I like you weigh 75kg and have a 5 year old. So feel the surf trip pain.. The RRD is a fun board and the rokerline is better but the Itiwit can still out surf it. Just way better fins and tail shape. Let us know how you get on. Send us some sick pics of you surfing some epic holiday break.
Joe, didn’t see your post until i got back from my sup surfing holiday with the family – and took a new 8′ ITIWIT along too. My 7yr old daughter loves it, and back home now (Lake District, UK) it is the perfect lake board for her because of the low volume and lack of thickness – not so badly affected my the wind, not so corky, really easy to scramble back onto when she’s leaping in and out of the water. I surfed it a bit and it was fun, but I had my hard board too so stuck… Read more »
Hey Chris! I’m planning to buy an itiwit board next time I visit the US (I’m from Argentina) and wonder if that basic pump you mention will be able to fit on the bag as well with the board? Thanks!
Hi Rob, theres some in depth comparisons in the Pro Video 🙂 Theres several boards that are really up there with design at the moment

Has anyone tried a pendleboard from pendleboard.com I have tried a couple of inflatables and I think that board beats any inflatable board. Let me know if you are planning on testing one?
No we haven’t but we would love to give one a go. They look pretty good.

These boards look really cool and I’m thinking of getting one. Does rider Height influence the board size I should get? Im 1m85 and about 75kg, would the 8′ board (135l) be big enough and have enough volume for me? I do lots of stand up paddle on race boards but I’m a beginner at SUP surfing and really trying to get into it.
Hi Mike,Thanks for sending over your question. I would say for your height and overweight the smaller board would be absolutely fine. Obviously it would be harder to use than the bigger board. But if you start off on flat water and get used to the board there’s no reason you shouldn’t be able to progress with it. In the long term you would not want the bigger 9′ board. Hope that helps
Wicked. And it sounds like the 8′ are the only boards left in stock at the moment anyway. I have just reread my last message and spotted a classic typo. Im not saying you are ‘Overweight’ it should be ‘Overall-weight ‘ Classic lol!

You really make them look attractive – in addition to their own appeal! They’re sort of the best at this price point and class currently, aren’t they? Could you please explain what are your weight numbers based on? On decathlon’s website I read the 8″ is suited for up to 60kg and the 9″ is said to be fit for riders up to 80kg. Your ratings for these boards are 85 and 90 kilograms respectively (which also seems to be a small gap for a volume increase of 40l). I’d love to get one and use it for (casually) exploring… Read more »
Hey Marcin. We think Itiwit are being a little bit tight with their volumes. For most paddlers looking at getting this board that have already got a board and got into paddlboarding up-to 80kg for the 8′ is very doable. Having said that, like you said it will require time on flat water and a bit of practice to get the feel of the boards. It sounds like with your water sports background and weight, a 8’would work well. The 9′ will be easier for sure but in the end the 8′ is a better preforming board because of its… Read more »
Thanks for the response! Actually, I did go for the 8′ just a couple hours before you replied (impatient me!) but you have definitely reassured me about the choice. Long-term it’s probably going to be more fun! It’s due to arrive tomorrow and I just can’t wait to try it out (again impatient me!). And thank you for all the videos, they’re really helpful!
Hi Cam, We have seen the Hala gear and the construction and the finish of the boards looked great. But the Playa is a very different board compared to the Surf Itiwit’s. It’s much longer and will give you a very different feel on a wave and also They have no Tail rail around the back of the board which will give you extra bite on a wave. But their fin setup and carbon stringers are great. This would be more of a great cruiser surf shape.

hello!! i really like this board and i would like to ask if i could have any fun of the longboard because i am 180cm tall and my weight is 95 kilos. i paddle generally and i want to learn how to catch some waves!! many thanks Reuben Ellis i look forward for your advice!!
Hey Dimitris, The 9′ would be the board to go for but it will be on the limit for you possibly. It really depends on what boards you are using know and how you are finding them? What gear have you got/used?
I feel its a board that you will have to get used to using. It will feel a lot smaller then your RRD. But so much better on a wave. I wouldn’t advise having it as a one board but it would work well along side your RRD until you have got the hang of it.
We were trying to get one to review but not yet. I have heard that at it thickness it isn’t the easiest board to paddle and it not as stiff compared to these boards. We have had a few readers tell us that. I wouldn’t look at it for you for what you want. The original 9′ would still be better and easier to paddle and surf.
The Itiwit is a much better board in the surf. The AQ wave needs more rocker (when we reviewed last years one)

Thanks for the quick reviews. Do you mean both 2019 10′ longboard (only 3” thick!) and 9′ shortboard are not as stiff as the previous? Or just means the 10′ longboard 3” thick one? I really consider buying the new 9′ shortboard and want to know if I should consider the old models.
I asked them and they told me the new board is just as stiff. I am on the fence trying to decide between the 10′ and the 9′ and they recommended the 10′ for me (70kg, can row in rough waters on 160l, catching first waves). They said I have two months to try it and return it or swap it for the other it I am not satisfied, no questions asked. Since there is a Decathlon store half an hour from where I will be on the beach, try and swap sounded right, so I went for… Read more »
Sounds like a good idea giving one a go. At your body weight both the boards should be fine for you. The 10′ will be getting you on the waves earlier and being 3″ should surf well on a wave. We have heard from many readers about the new board and I think the reaction are 50%50% some think its stiff enough and some think not.
I have bought the 9′ board and it is leaking even when I was not going into the water yet. It began leaking shortly after inflated and 5mins sun exposure… I believe mine will not be the only case..
Hi William thanks for commenting. That’s not good at all! Whereabouts is the board leaking from? Around the valve or from the rails.

My brother managed to get the 8ft board from France about a month back and had it shipped from family over there. I’ve got an 8.5ft Loco Aztec Air and was really surprised with how small the itiwit was in comparison.. At 16 stone I can barely even kneel up on it haha but he’s a lot lighter than I am. He’s struggling a bit with it to be honest, but managed to catch a few waves recently and was pleased with how it surfed. He just had to paddle it mostly knelt down and then pop up just before… Read more »
Hey Johnny. Yeah tips, really are get uses to it on flatwater and really paddling in a slightly off set surf stance the whole time. Brace with paddle at all times if needed. Water time will make a massive difference.

Got my hands on the new 3’ thick longboard and it is brilliant in the surf. It’s not super stable at only 140l but if you’ve your foot work down it’s loads of fun. I found its very stiff, that said not as stiff as the 9’.
It paddles into a wave really quickly and holds onto the face and turns very well. Loving it. Looking forward to the review when you get your hands on one Reuben.
Eoin, We have been working really hard to get one, but with no luck. We have heard some good things about it though, seems not as stiff, but for 3 inch, pretty good.! Will SUPboarder
We do still have the 8′ board. So handy for those travel surf sessions.

Reuben, hi fella. I looked back at this review, looked at what’s on the market ISUP surf wise now and concluded it’s still one hell of an surf ISUP. Decathlon have not stocked them for an age so when I looked recently was surprised; there they were again. OK £50 more (covbrex effect) however still looks super value so pulled the trigger on one. This is to compliment my composite Surf SUP for those occasions where I’m either tight on space in camper or want to Chuck in back of car “just in case” and to also use on rivers… Read more »
Thanks Jooles. Yeah these boards are still right up there and probably the best on the market. But we are going to be looking at the JP Australia Surf isup and a Starboard surf isup in the future, so look out for those videos. But I feel for, bang for buck the itiwits are hard to beat. Good move on going for one. We still have one for ‘Just in case’ moments!
Hi Reuben, many thanks. It’s arrived. Lumped it up and the thing is very very rigid. Like you I have the trusty and fantastic COTAN wide 7’11” however for times when glide is needed and less steep waves this may actually be a hoot and great for the family to have fun I too.
I’ll look forward to your reviews of the JP and Starboard in terms of advancements in Isups…or not.

would you recommend the Itiwit 500 over the Quatro Glide Air or other iSUPs for surfing?
