I have this board, I think it’s time for next step. So. I have started to look for a board for next season. I paddle a river almost daily, 2km long trip. For fun and fitness. The river have a lot of turns and rocks. My 12’6 works well with that. I don’t carry stuff, when I bought this board my kids where on my board whit me. Now they are bigger and paddle their own boards. What I don’t like with this 12’6 is when I’m on a lake with side chop(wind). I think it’s hard to maneuver in… Read more »
Hey Dew, do you want to stick with an iSUP? A hard board around the same length would feel much better in the chop. But iSUP wise it sounds like the length should stay around 12’6″ to keep your glide up when you are doing your 2km paddles. I think dropping the width could really speed the board up for your weight. But you will still have the side chop issue like you do now. Or if you did go shorter a 11′ Red Paddle Co Sport could be a good smaller board to look at.
I don’t know so much about hard boards. I like to lie on my back and look at the sky, quiet often I fall asleep. An isup is also quite hard to lie on, but will a hard board be to hard?

If I remember right, if I hit a rock is it bad for hard board? How will a 11’ sport be better? It will go slower?
For hitting stuff and durability the iSUP is great and better then a hard board for sure. A hard board will still give you a better overall speed and performance but it will require more looking after than a iSUP. An iSUP will have more volume at the tail (thickness) so lying back on the board wont be as easy on a hard board. Hope this all helps .
