Earlier this year Red Paddle Co team rider Jerome Josserand took his 9’6 Allwater to Pontet Lake in the French Alps for a bit of a SUP adventure and photoshoot. Jerome and Beatrice live in the small village of La Grave in the Alps and Jerome is a professional snow kiter. Jerome enjoys travelling worldwide during the winter months in search of the best snow conditions, but in the spring Jerome explains “the first lakes are thawed and it’s a great time to SUP at home.”
Here’s what Jerome had to say about their trip to Pontet Lake…
“Pontet Lake is 2000m high in the French Alps. It’s a quiet and beautiful place, surrounded by mountains and glaciers all covered in snow… it’s just a wonderful playground. The famous and impressive 3983m high mountain ‘La Meije’ sits next to the lake. We accessed the area by car and then walked 40 minutes carrying the inflatable boards on our backs. The wind was light and a bit fresh, and the water emerald with incredible reflections of the snowy mountains. The water temperature was however only 2 degrees! With our boards inflated it was time to get on the water. It was magical SUPing on the lake and my eyes were fixed on the mountains. To see the snow and glaciers in front of you whilst you’re on the water is unreal… and so beautiful. At the end of the afternoon the wind disappeared completely. The lake was like a mirror and it was silent. Riding on the lake was like riding 1m of powder. We didn’t want to even blink. What an incredible time shared with Mother Nature. We paddled on the lake until the sun set. And then walked and drove home with big smiles on our faces and a lot of amazing memories.”
And lots of amazing photos too!…
If these photos don’t make you want to pack your iSUP and find some epic unSUPed places to paddle around the world then we don’t know what will. The places to explore by SUP around the world are endless. Who will be the first person to SUP the highest lakes in the world? It could be you… just get out there and do it and remember to let SUPboarder know.
