SUP Twelve brings in paddlers from many different backgrounds in a gruelling 12-hour challenge, where the aim is to complete as many laps as possible. 2025 saw a choppy course, especially around high-tide where the swell reverberates off the sea wall and rocks in Paignton, making for challenging conditions.
Paddling her All-Star, Emily King was top UK female (2nd female overall behind impressive endurance athlete Tanja Ecker from Germany). In the men’s competition, also riding a 14ft All Star, Starboard’s Paul Simmons, in the twelve-hour period came close to his 100km target, with a solid 95km (28 laps). Vortex Crossing - August
Charlie Head is on an epic solo paddle from Shetland to Orkney—117 km of open sea, believed to be the first of its kind! Beyond the challenge, he’s raising awareness for ocean protection and mental health, proving endurance can make waves both on and off the water.
Charlie Head, the British endurance paddleboarder, has recently embarked on an ambitious solo expedition known as the “Vortex Crossing.” This challenge involves paddling from the north coast of Scotland to the Faroe Islands, aiming to cover a distance of approximately 150–180 km over open sea.
Unfortunately, severe weather conditions have forced the cancellation of this crossing. In response, Charlie has redirected his focus to another formidable challenge: a solo, unsupported paddleboard journey from Lerwick in the Shetland Islands to Sanday Island in Orkney. This unbroken 117 km route is believed to be the first of its kind.
Throughout his endeavors, Charlie continues to raise awareness for ocean protection and mental health, supporting causes such as Sea Shepherd Global and Dare2Express. His journey underscores the profound connection between personal endurance challenges and broader environmental and social issues.
SUPERCHAMPS - SUP Races English Riviera - September
The English Riviera buzzed with stand-up paddleboarding excitement on 6–7 September 2025 as SUPERFestivaltransformed Torquay’s Inner Harbour into a hub for sprint races, SUP Polo, and community paddling events. Spectators lined the harbour walls to watch fast-paced sprint heats, technical buoy-turn races, and One Design competitions, which highlighted pure paddling skill on identical boards.
The festival also celebrated inclusivity with the AquaPaddle 5K, welcoming families, newcomers, and leisure paddlers. SUP Polo proved a standout, entertaining crowds with its dynamic, board-based gameplay.
While distance races were canceled due to a lightning forecast, the weekend successfully combined high-level competition with community fun, showcasing the growing popularity of SUP in the UK and setting the stage for Torbay’s goal of hosting the ICF SUP World Cup in 2026.
AUSTRALIAN SUP TITLES - October
The 2025 Australian SUP Titles concluded in spectacular fashion at Phillip Island, celebrating the nation’s top stand-up paddlers across surfing and racing disciplines. With small but clean waves and light offshore winds, competitors showcased their skills in true Victorian style. Local favourite Matt Takle (VIC) impressed in the Thermos Open Men’s division with a near-perfect score to claim the title, while Rebecca Dunning (NSW) dominated the women’s divisions, taking victories in the Open Women, O40 Women, and both the Technical and Marathon O40 Women’s races. Other standout performances came from veterans Dave Sheen (WA) and Marty Cole (NSW), alongside rising talent Willa Webb (VIC), who won the U18 Junior Women’s crown.
In the racing divisions, Queensland’s Juan Cruz and Victoria’s Sorelle Nolan claimed the Open Men’s and Women’s Marathon titles, while Connor Linz (NSW) and Ke’ale Dorries (QLD) took out the Technical Races. Age-group competitors like Warwick Lee (VIC) and Dave Warner (VIC) also impressed, and Hayden Copping (NSW) dominated the prone categories. The event was a true celebration of SUP’s diversity and community spirit, with competitors tackling everything from clean point breaks to challenging open-water marathons. Organisers praised all athletes, volunteers, and supporters for making the 2025 edition a standout success.
ISA WORLD SUP & PADDLEBOARD CHAMPIONSHIP - November
The 2025 ISA World SUP & Paddleboard Championship, held from 10–15 November in El Sunzal, Surf City, El Salvador, delivered one of the most electric and memorable editions in the event’s history. Over six days of competition, El Sunzal’s iconic pointbreak served up rolling swell, clean morning surfaces, and warm Pacific conditions that perfectly suited every discipline — sprint, technical, distance, prone, and SUP surf.
It was a championship defined by standout performances: the women’s SUP Technical came down to a heart-stopping sprint between Juliette and Mariecarmen; the men’s prone distance saw USA athlete Lukas Pohlman lose his board mid-race when battling in second position; Shuri Araki added two more gold medals, elevating his career tally to six ISA titles; MarieCarmen Rivera captured her first ISA World Championship gold; Luiz Diniz dominated the SUP Surf division to earn his fourth ISA surfing crown; and Vania Torres stole the women’s surf final with a dramatic buzzer-beater wave that sent the crowd erupting along the shoreline.
