In a surprising crossover between automotive innovation and watersports, BMW has officially launched its first-ever electric stand-up paddleboard in collaboration with SipaBoards — a company already well known for creating inflatable boards.
The new BMW x SipaBoards Tourer Electric e-SUP represents a bold move by the German brand into electrified outdoor mobility.
Built for exploration, assistance, and connectivity, this e-SUP merges electric propulsion tech with next-level design and usability — tailored for riders who want more than just traditional paddling.
Electric Power Meets Paddleboarding
At the heart of the Tourer Electric is an integrated 300-watt electric motor paired with a custom propeller. This system provides silent, emission-free assistance that helps riders tackle headwinds, currents, and longer crossings with less effort — topping out at around 7.5 km/h (4 knots).
Unlike a standard SUP, this board self-inflates using the electric drive system, meaning you can go from bag to water with minimal set-up. The combination of electric assist and self-inflation makes it a compelling choice for touring and adventure SUP riders.
Connected & Customisable
The e-SUP is controlled through a Bluetooth-connected interface built into the carbon-fiber paddle, giving riders access to power modes, lighting, and haptic feedback. There’s also a companion smartphone app for route planning, GPS tracking, and battery monitoring — a rare level of connectivity in the SUP world.
Key safety features include an automatic motor cut-off if the paddle falls into the water, helping keep the board under control in unexpected situations.
Designed for Adventure
Here’s a closer look at the board’s specs and design:
Length/WIDTH: ~3.65 m (12 ft) × 0.82 m (32.2″)
Weight: ~14.9 kg (with motor installed)
Battery: Two 90 Wh modular packs (up to ~3.5 hrs of assist); optional 180 Wh modules doubled run time to ~7 hrs from 2026 onward
The board folds into a backpack-ready package and includes a clever mounting system with 17 attachment points — perfect for cameras, coolers, dry bags, lights, or speaker kits. Built-in LED ambient lighting enhances visibility in low light. Marine Industry News
Style, Sustainability & Performance
Developed with BMW Group Designworks, the e-SUP draws visual cues from BMW’s Neue Klasse design language, bringing automotive flair to the water with three striking colorways. The construction uses lightweight, robust materials, including a high-density drop-stitch core and carbon-fiber paddle, blending performance and durability.
And while it’s positioned as a lifestyle product, the electric assist and tech suite make it a genuine performance-enhancing tool for long days on the water — whether cruising lakes, rivers, or coastal expanses.
Availability & Price
The BMW x SipaBoards Tourer Electric e-SUP is available now directly from SipaBoards and BMW Lifestyle outlets in Europe and select retailers. Pricing starts at €3,990 (~£3,400 / ~$4,600) for the standard battery configuration. Optional battery upgrades extend on-water time and broaden adventure potential.
