Monthly Round-up of SUP / November 2025

Welcome to our collection of the biggest news and stories that have taken place in the SUP world from the previous month. Let's recap what happened in November 2025.

ISA WORLD SUP & PADDLEBOARD CHAMPIONSHIP - 2025

The 2025 ISA World SUP & Paddleboard Championship, held from 10–15 November in El Sunzal, Surf City, El Salvador, delivered one of the most electric and memorable editions in the event’s history. Over six days of competition, El Sunzal’s iconic pointbreak served up rolling swell, clean morning surfaces, and warm Pacific conditions that perfectly suited every discipline — sprint, technical, distance, prone, and SUP surf.

It was a championship defined by standout performances: the women’s SUP Technical came down to a heart-stopping sprint between Juliette and Mariecarmen; the men’s prone distance saw USA athlete Lukas Pohlman lose his board mid-race when battling in second position; Shuri Araki added two more gold medals, elevating his career tally to six ISA titles; MarieCarmen Rivera captured her first ISA World Championship gold; Luiz Diniz dominated the SUP Surf division to earn his fourth ISA surfing crown; and Vania Torres stole the women’s surf final with a dramatic buzzer-beater wave that sent the crowd erupting along the shoreline.

At the conclusion of an unforgettable week, Spain emerged as the overall Team World Champion — a triumph built on consistency, depth, and medal-winning performances across every category.

ICF SUP WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS - 2025

The 2025 ICF Stand-Up Paddling World Championships unfolded in Abu Dhabi from 29 October to 2 November, bringing together more than 460 athletes from over 50 nations to compete across sprint, technical, and long-distance disciplines. The UAE provided ideal flat-water and open-water conditions, allowing athletes to demonstrate speed, endurance, and ocean-reading skills at the highest level.

Puerto Rico’s Mariecarmen Rivera stole the spotlight with a hat-trick of golds across sprint, technical, and long-distance races, while Japan’s Shuri Araki retained the men’s long-distance title, cementing his status among the world’s elite paddlers.

In the sprint divisions, Sergio Cantoral (ESP) and Mariecarmen Rivera (PUR) claimed Open Men and Open Women golds, with Vadim Korobov (LTU) and Alba Alonso Frey (ESP) taking silvers, and Andrii Kraitor (BUL) and Seychelle Webster (USA) earning bronzes.

The technical races highlighted Aaron Sanchez Quetglas (ESP) and Rivera as the top performers, with Araki and Duna Gordillo (ESP) also on the podium.

Long-distance racing saw Araki and Rivera secure golds in their respective Open categories, with Sanchez, Rai Taguchi (JPN), Gordillo, and Alonso Frey completing the top three across divisions.

The championship showcased the growing depth of international SUP competition and the versatility required to excel in multiple race formats. The event was celebrated not only for the high level of competition but also for bringing together a global SUP community, showcasing the sport’s growth and the ICF’s continued role in promoting excellence and inclusivity in stand-up paddling.

ALAS GLOBAL FINALS - 2025

The SUP divisions delivered some of the most exciting performances of the week at the ALAS Global Tour Finals, where both SUP Surf and SUP Race crowned new champions in the powerful right-hand waves of Surf City El Salvador.

In SUP Race, Argentina’s Juliette Duhaime dominated the women’s field with unmatched consistency, winning all three race heats to secure a perfect score. Peru’s Itzel Delgado took the men’s title through a combination of strategy and stamina, earning one heat victory and two strong second-place finishes.

The SUP Surf finals brought an equally high level of talent to Punta Mango’s long, technical walls. Brazil’s Leco Salazarclaimed the men’s crown with powerful, flowing surfing, followed by France’s Benoit Carpentier. In the women’s division, Peru’s Vania Torres rose to the top with dynamic turns and excellent wave selection, ahead of Argentina’s Lucía Cosoleto.

With over 300 athletes from more than 25 countries, this year’s ALAS Global Finals highlighted the growing strength of SUP within the Latin American surf scene. Punta Mango once again proved the perfect stage, showcasing the versatility and progression of both SUP Surf and SUP Race on an international level.
