The Spanish Technical SUP Race Championship took place on 11 October 2025 in Suances, Cantabria, with challenging conditions and strong competition across categories. On a day marked by waves reaching up to 1.5 metres and a demanding beach-to-sea circuit of approximately 3 km, Canarian rider Alba Frey and Cantabrian Manu Hoyuela took top honours.
In the elite women’s category, Canarian rider Alba Frey dominated from the start, maintaining a clear lead throughout the race and clinching the national title ahead of Duna Gordillo (Mallorca) and Esperanza Barreras (Galicia). The men’s elite race delivered high drama as a leading pack of five athletes surged ahead early, but local Cantabrian competitor Manu Hoyuela made a decisive move after the second passage through the surf zone, finishing first to take the title in front of his home crowd. Sergio Cantoral (Alicante) and Antonio Morillo (Cádiz) completed the men’s podium.
Over 100 participants competed in categories ranging from Sub-10 to +50, but the spotlight remained firmly on the elite finals. The variable conditions — including a falling tide that made progress through the surf zone even tougher — added to the spectacle and required racers to combine ocean experience with tactical awareness.
In the youth divisions, Rubén Cantoral and Alexia Soto emerged as national champions in the Sub-18 male and female categories respectively, showcasing rising talent in Spanish SUP racing.
This edition of the national technical SUP championship reaffirmed the discipline’s growing popularity and the depth of talent across Spain. With coastline, surf and flatwater specialisations increasingly merging, the winners—Frey and Hoyuela—have set a high benchmark for the upcoming season.
