Monthly Round-up of SUP / April 2025

Welcome to our collection of the biggest news and stories that have taken place in the SUP world from the previous month. Let's recap what happened in April 2025.

LSR BALI COSMIC EXPERIENCE - SUP SURF EVENT 2025

One of the world’s best SUP surf events took place over the Easter period, the Longboard SUP Revolution Bali Cosmic Experience. The surfers were greeted with great swell and favourable winds.

The world’s best SUP (Stand Up Paddle) longboard surfers gathered in Bali for this 3rd annual competition, the Longboard SUP Revolutions’ Bali Cosmic Experience, which provided competition divisions for:  Elite Men, Elite Women, Elite Weekend Warriors, Weekend Warriors (Men’s and Women’s) and Over 60’s.

Over 50 participants joined in the five day event, which highlighted the popularity of SUP and SUP surfing that has been growing by leaps and bounds in recent years.

A big thank you to the organisers of the event; Michael Jenkins, Scott McKercher, Jonni Deaker and the team at Asian Surf Cooperative.

Winners included Benoit Carpentier, Ke’ale Dorries, Andrew Cassidy, Anthony Smith, Tasha and Dave Sheen.

SUP Twelve - 2025

Paul Simmons and Tanja Ecker reign supreme at SUP Twelve held on the 12th April in the UK! The event is an endurance race format where competitors paddle for 12 hours around a set course. Whoever completes the most laps wins.

SUP Twelve brings in paddlers from many different backgrounds in a gruelling 12-hour challenge, where the aim is to complete as many laps as possible. 2025 saw a choppy course, especially around high-tide where the swell reverberates off the sea wall and rocks in Paignton, making for challenging conditions.

Paddling her All-Star, Emily King was top UK female (2nd female overall behind impressive endurance athlete Tanja Ecker from Germany). In the men’s competition, also riding a 14ft All Star, Starboard’s Paul Simmons, in the twelve-hour period came close to his 100km target, with a solid 95km (28 laps). He achieved the fastest lap of the event by over a minute and an average lap time 3min 40s faster than his nearest rival.

AQUAPADDLE AND GBSUP PARTNERSHIP - 2025

AquaPaddle and GBSUP announce their collaboration to further develop and enhance the sport of stand-up paddleboarding (SUP) across the UK. This partnership aims to create a clear pathway for novice paddlers to progress through to elite-level sport and ultimately compete on the international stage.

As part of this exciting initiative, AquaPaddle’s free 5km time trials – often described as ‘Parkrun for paddlers’ – will be hosted at as many GBSUP events as possible. This means that during GBSUP event weekends, any paddler, regardless of experience, can take part and enjoy being at the heart of the action. Participants may even find themselves on the start line alongside some of the UK’s top SUP athletes.

AquaPaddle prides itself on being an inclusive community event, welcoming all types of paddlers, not just those on stand-up paddleboards. Kayaks and canoes are also encouraged to join in, and children and well-behaved dogs are more than welcome to take part in the fun of AquaPaddle.
